Need Balok Pictures - The Corbomite Maneuver

From TOS Trek - the cool looking alien puppet that they have during the end credits, not Opie's bald headed brother. I've got plenty of screen grabs of the "puppet" from the front and a couple from the back, but I could use some other angles.

Do any exist?

Obi-Bob,

Are you going to sculpt it?

Isn't the guy's name Balok? Might help in image searches.

Question is, are you going to do the hideous alien, or the dummy? :lol

Sorry, you just gotta bust on Clint Howard.

Balok's face must be rubber or sometihing... you can see his jaw flapping while he's talking.

I had those shots too, but I knew you'd go bust if you couldn't provide caps.

Re: Need Balock Pictures - The Corbomite Maneuver

There was some Old Trek Photo Club Shots Floating around with a couple behind the scene pics, Balok was a product of Wah Chang, might be able to search something through that door?

Roger,

I did a thorough check of the Photo Club collection and though there are a few pics from that episode, unfortunately, there are none of the Balok Puppet.

Re: Need Balock Pictures - The Corbomite Maneuver

I capped that last scene that Karl posted as well mainly because Kirk was holding his P1 backward! :)

Re: Need Balock Pictures - The Corbomite Maneuver

Not to hijack, but good eye on that P1... this was the FIRST EPISODE of the regular series that was shot, and in fact the first scene where anybody had to wield a hand phaser! so it's not surprising he got it wrong. :lol

Geting back to Balok, come to think of it I thought there was a rare pic in "Inside Star Trek" or one of those books... I'll have to dig them up and check.

Maybe it was just an incident that they relate, about the producers clowning around with the Balok puppet in the studio offices. But I thought there might be a Wah Chang photo or something.

Ummmm, hmmmmm. Could be, could be. Maybe I was subconsciously thinking BLAlock..... Yeah, that's it! Blalock!

Well, yeah, the idea is to sculpt the slightly more alien looking head.... Preferably starting several months ago...... I'd like to have it for a con at the beginning of July. SO, you can clearly see I'm not completely sane. My only hope is to get some serious momentum going, lose a bit of sleep..... and try not to care too much about how it actually looks. Which isn't easy for those of us who are perfectionists. (No one else here is one, are they? :lol)

And those are some great screen grabs, guys! I sorta already have them, but not that large! Very cool! I could kinda use a side view or 3/4 view, if any photo actually exists. I haven't done much sculpting in way too long, especially of freakishly shaped alien noggins. It'd be handy to see how deep his nose is, overall headshape and so on.

But, we'll see what happens! Worst case, we'll still have a roomful of props and aliens!!

I've never seen a side view that I can recall. In the episode, the puppet is shown on a viewscreen with some kind of distorting effect over it...
in those scenes it moves side to side and you can see a bit around it, but again due to the distorting effect it's not easy to tell what you're looking at.

Note that the two front views posted are from slightly different angles... straight-on and from slightly above. So that could give you a little bit of information. The key I think is to get the cheekbones and that downturned mouth right.

But wouldn't you think he'd have held it so that the numbers on the dial were correctly oriented toward him?

I always thought Kirk was pretty quick to drink the Tranya, too. :confused

Good eyes on that P1, SG. :thumbsup

Sorry for the hijack.
