NCR Veteran Ranger

In honor of Kommissar's amazing build of the Fallout: New Vegas NCR Veteran Ranger i've decided to try my hand at hit. A good 75% of the ideas and 100% of the helmet design (at least) came from Komissar's build, so I don't plan on taking any credit for it. I'm just hoping to put my spin on it and see where it lands.

Spent most of the night putting all the electrical stuff in the head.

- Laser Pointer
- LED flashlight
- LED's (6) around the eyes

and wiring all of those to their respective switches and back to the battery. Everything works fine, but the inside of the helmet looks like copper spaghetti.

I also put the straps on the bullet proof vest. It looks a little chunky, so more shaping is in order.

More pics tomorrow

awesome gun!
may i suggest putting the red lenses on the inside of the mask, rather than the outside?

I've actually been putzing around with that idea for a while. Someone on your thread suggested using snowboard goggles and thats what i've got installed now. Red on the outside and a mirrored black on the inside with red LED's in between. I think if i switch the lenses around with the LED's and the mirrored lenses it'll make a better show.

The anti-materiel rifle came out much better than expected, thanks.

Here's some shots of the helmet with LED's on and a pic of the armor. Looking forward to starting the coat or the gun-belt/holster.

Alright! Long time, no see.

Otakon is about 90-ish? days away and Philly Comic-Con is right around the corner, so I need to get a-crackin!

I've finished the air tank for the back as well and the mounting rig:

I got upset with how the riot vest was... to put it nicely... totally sucking hardcore arse, so I scrapped it and started anew:

I also just started the daunting task which is the Ranger Sequoia. As you can see in the picture I used my Ruger: Super Redhawk as a size model. It puts the Ranger Sequoia at over 13 inches in length:

Hopefully the coat and a 100% finished ranger sequoia are to follow.

Wish me luck!

Thanks Chim.

Tonight i've managed to finalize ALL the electronics in the helmet. It looks a little jumbled, but works just fine. I fitted the facemask with an Aker M1508 voice amplifier. The breadboard is pictured on the left of the inside with the mic and battery towards the front. I slipped the speaker in the gas canister of the outside left of the helmet. It works great, but i've still got to seal it up better to cut back on the feedback when I turn it up loud.

By the end of the night I should have more pictures. Some of the gunbelt, gloves, arm-pieces, and leather chest straps.

Still procrastinating on the coat...

This first shot is pre-amplifier. It shows the wiring for the eye LED's, Flashlight, and laser pointer.

This second shot is after I added the voice-amplifier. Looks a little cramped.

This looks badass so far. What kind of LEDs are being used and what power source? In the middle of making my helmet and am wondering if I want to have a fan to keep me cool or light up eyes. will probably end up with the latter.

Sorry guys. I'm just finishing up moving, so this project has hit a standstill for a bit.

- The LED's are just regular 3000mcd red LEDs and you can grab them at any Radio Shack. The power source is a 12v lead acid battery hooked to some resistors to lowers the voltage for the LEDs.

- The rifle has some progress pics, but I havent uploaded them yet. My photobucket is here. NCR Veteran Ranger pictures by Old_Mr_Magic - Photobucket

The lenses are actually old snowboard goggles that I cut up. I bought some Electric brand goggles a while back before I bought a helmet and they didn't work anymore with said helmet. Luckily I kept them around since they came with a pair of Rose colored lenses and a pair of mirrored polarized lenses. I put the LEDs in between the lenses to bounce the light around.

More pics and progress soon, I PROMISE!!!

Update: The costume is around 95% done (WOO!)

Anyone that was at Philly Comic-con around 3pm on Saturday saw me. I wasn't there long.

Here's some finished pics of the coat, which was a pain to sew.
