NBC and Bryan Fuller remaking 'The Munsters'

Looking at my post above I have to say in all fairness, I really don’t think it’s the writers who are to blame for the failure of Hollywood to produce anything original but the studio executives, who with there constant no talent ego driven interfering cause the decline of true creativity in today’s programming.

Al.

No argument there, it's definitely the executives that are the problem. Remakes, reboots, and adaptations are the "sure bet" these days. Original films are considered "risky".

The only recent successful original film I can think of off the top of my head is Inception, and even that was marketed as "From the director of The Dark Knight!!!" It's sad that Chris Nolan had to prove himself "worthy" of Hollywood "allowing" him to make an original picture.

That reminds me of something I was thinking of doing a while back and never got around to. I was going to come up with a list of every theatrical release for an entire year, and then research each title to see how many of those releases were actually original screenplays and not adaptations, sequels, or remakes. I think the number will actually be higher than people assume, even knowing Hollywood's recent turn to the unoriginal. A lot of movies are based on obscure source material, so people may think that they're original, when they're really adaptations.

Yeah, they did. Now they're saying it will be "Modern Family" meets "True Blood." So I'm sure they'd look different and it'd be darker. I'm not really interested in watching it myself.

Yeah... I believe the majority of these remakes are the brain children of producers that hire writers to write them. Writers don't make enough money to turn down work.

Didn't they try this once before already? Or was that just a TV movie?

I believe you're thinking of the Munsters Today, a 1988 revival starring John Schuck.

oh god no..they already screwed up the addams family with the movies...

The Adams Family movies were fine. They went back to Charles Adams original cartoons and they were subversively dark comedies. The Munsters is a different story. Noone can possibly recreate the chemistry of Gwyne, Lewis, and the rest of the cast. The broke the mold.

I'd forgotten about that. I was remembering some of the later TV movies which were just as bad

True Blood meets Modern family, huh? Does this mean Grandpa will be pan-amorous?

Ya Hollywood has "jumped the shark" in terms of creativity. Remakes abound with Munster, wonder woman, and Dallas.

I agree the writers aren't to blame its the directors, producers and execs. If anyone should be in charge of the Munsters it should be Rob Zombie (though for someone who loves horror movies his stuff isn't that good). I remember that Munsters Today, i was pretty young and still thought it was horrid lol. I liked the first addams family movie but still loved the TV show more.

Guillermo del Toro for me personally.

I’m not a fan of Rob Zombie. He has his fans, but I personally think his is highly overrated. But that’s only my personal opinion.

What the hell people?! The Munsters? The Munsters? Seriously? I remember watching it as a kid, enjoying it for a bit, but then just getting sick of it when I realised nothing ever goes right for that family and it's just the same crap all the time. The Munsters, remade? Again? Please bury this and forget about it.

you know aside from the cars I never liked the Munsters. I'm an Addams family guy myself (hated all the movies though)
Nothing tops John Aston!
Just leave this to die already

The Munsters can never be remade, it was of a different time and place.

Fred Gwynne as Herman, Dumb as a rock but not a mean bone in is body.
Yvonne De Carlo as Lily, Who could replace her charm and sarcasm?
Al Lewis as Grandpa, simply a classic.
Pat Priest as Marilyn, a simple babe for contrast.
Butch Patrick as Eddie, Now here's the one I could never stand.
Sadly most have passed.

The show was goofy and absurd, but I still watch it for nostalgic reasons.

Ya? I did enjoy the Addams Family more, Chas Addams was a grand cartoonist.
