I had some plywood lying around, which someone gave me for free, and it's perfect for making little boxes for shipping these. While I was at it, I already cut some more for all pairs/sets.

Now I just need to figure out how to label the shipment to get through customs :eek
;)

They look amazing!! I'm almost regretting that I can't swing the fully-assembled gauntlets...

As someone who's never worked with fiberglass before, and is getting a little jittery about safety concerns, what do y'all recommend for cutting/grinding/sanding these pieces to shape? I'm definitely not going to do it in my garage, with all kinds of stuff that the glass dust could get caught on...

I'm working on getting more organized with my projects so starting with this one I'm currently working on a checklist. This way I hope not to get confused with these several sets which probably will all be in different stages simultaneously.

...it's also almost a complete set of instructions for the two of you, who have to assemble these themselves ;-)
vaderdarth : I'm PM you tomorrow about shipping cost and time. it's the first time I'm shipping something outside EU and customs regulations are really not that well explained from A to Z...have to head to the post office tomorrow anyway and hope they can answer my last few questions :eek

Wow, great progress... Since they ship from Germany, no customs hassle for me :). Very nice that we get a box with them to store them in! I think I'm kicking in an open door when I advive to wrap each glove in bubblewrap befor putting them in the box? ;-). I guess these gloves can be tangled to each other pretty easy due to their "scaly" nature, risking damaging each other...

Anyway, I like what I see very, VERY much, mate! Great job!

..."there is no door!".... ;-)

anyway, I hope these images of how I packed the first pair renders your worries redundant :eek ;)

Each glove is wrapped in cloth, then both together in bubble-wrap, then put into the box with more soft foam. The box is then taped shut with duct-tape and put into a accordingly re-sized cardboard box (luckily I have plenty of those left over from moving...)
The zig-zag cardboard is really tough and glued in place so it can't loose its shape, which makes for an excellent crash-zone if the package should have some kind of accident.

More boxes waiting :)

:eek That's about the best packaging job I've seen here, mate! You should take a patent on the zig-zag cardboard method ;).

Anyway, this thread is just amazing: quality and looks of the gloves seem to be incredible (and I'm pretty sure I will be able to confirm when I have them in hand), packaging is just top notch, and the WIP pics are a pleasure for the eyes... The fact that you ship from Germany is in my case also a big plus. I really hope to see more INT threads from you, SciFiPropFreak.

"Corrugated [...] paper was patented in England in 1856 [...], but corrugated boxboard was not patented and used as a shipping material until December 20, 1871" (Wikipedia)
...well, I guess this idea has been out there for a while :eek :facepalm

Anyway ...updates:
I just started the **echo mode on** "WEEK OF LAMINATION!!!" **echo mode off** ...at least the plan is to laminate at least once, but hopefully twice every day, until I have all the parts needed for all your gauntlets, plus a few extra:rolleyes

Because I have to laminate the fingerplate-mold three times for every pair of gauntlets, I figured, that I would end up only making 1 mold of fingerplates, 2 times a day, after all other parts are already done...which seemed a bit annoying ...so I made a second mold :ninja

Another annoying thing is..I mean WAS that I could not really see the upper edges inside of the U-shaped molds, so that was the most likely place of bubbles to form...because i just didn't see them while laminating.
If, so far, you got the impression, that I like to build contraptions to help with my work...you're absolutely right :D
This is a quite simple platform which can tilt to both sides. It doesn't even have hinges..just a few straps (of which some are just duck-tape ;))

Today I laminated twice, so in theory, I could make the parts for 1 pair every day...wish me luck :wacko

little update on the progress:

keeping a checklist always helps :)

Molding two times a day gets to the molds somehow...they are expanding, probably because of the styrol that diffuses into them. Will give them this evening off so they can recover :facepalm

I also ordered some more fiberglass...
