    Hey guys,
This is for all of you that enjoyed the props of the movie "National Treasure" as much as I did.
I just thought I would post a progress pic of what I'm working on right now. It's turning out so well so far, that I thought you guys might want to see. I still have a lot of work to do on it, as well as the inscription scroll part, and the stem. Plus, I plan on doing the box they found the pipe in. So, I will be doing a sculpt of the top of the box as well.
I hope you like what you see so far.

    -Brenton

Looks good so far. I don't know if it is the camera angle or what not but the bowl looks a bit small around. I know this is in its early stages and would be a good time if you wanted to correct it before you added too much detail.
I can definately tell you are working from good reference shots as the knight is coming along quite well.
I will keep a close eye on this thread too. I really love this prop.

It's the angle of the camera shot. The bowl is pretty big around. I've added a couple more pics to give a better view.
    Thanks,
    Brenton

    Thanks Muttley,
An interest list won't be starting for a while. Like I said, I still have a lot of work to do on it, as well as the wood box it's stored in.

that is so awesome. You should make the peice of paper he rolled the pipe on with the riddle to go with it. Looking great so far, keep up the good work. :D

When this prop is all done, it will include of course the wooden box, and a couple of extras, such as the "The Secret Lies With Charlotte" paper and maybe the notebook he rolled the riddled inscription of blood down on.
I'm going to try my best in making the inscription part of the pipe as functional and accurate as possible. So, if you ever feel the need to cut open your finger and rub in on the scroll to read the riddle, it will look exactly as it did in the movie.

I know the original prop was comprised of 6 moulds.
Thanks for the updated pix. I think the progress is coming along really well. I have seen some bad ones popping up on eBay that never gave the pipe justice but you are definately off to a good start.

Just an aside, would this guy be of any help?

    http://www.kazimpipe.net/

His shop is just outside the front gate of Incirlik Air Base in southern Turkey, and I've bought quite a few pieces from him over the years. He has twenty or so artists on staff, and does great work in Meerschaum. I know Meerschaum wouldn't be screen-authentic, but...

    :)

Someone in Los Angeles is making a run of 50 of these. You see them on ebay now and again. Expensive little * though.

If it is the guy that is selling one right now on eBay, it is really inacurate.

    Hey guys,
Just giving you an update on my progress with this piece. So Far it's coming along nicely. There's still a lot of work to do to it, such as adding the people around the base of the castle walls and touching up in some areas, which I'm sure you see in the pictures. I'm calling this part of the pipe Phase #1, which is almost finished. Then I'll be moving to phase #2, which is the riddle inscripted stem of the pipe. Phase #3 will be the box that it's contained in, as seen when they find the pipe in the movie.
I hope you guys like what you see so far.

    Thank you for your support.

I don't know if I believe those auctions. I don't think they were the one and only screen used props of those items. Like the galsses for instance. Weren't there a couple pair? Heck there could have been 3 or four. And Same goes for the pipe. Could have been many. I would think the prop makers made several.

Pipe's looking GREAT RelicMaker. SWEET. You're one good sculptor. What refrence are you using? You couldn't have gotten that great of detail just from screen caps. If so. WOW. COOL.

Thanks guys... I'm really glad you approve of it so far. Even though, there is still a lot of work to do. I won't be able to work on it for the next week or so, since I'm in the middle of prepping and aging the Goonies Copper Bones casts, but will be posting more update pictures as soon as Phase #1 is finished.

    Thanks again,
    Brenton

Yeah, those auctions were for real.
I remember those auctions on eBay, along with everything else from the movie. I wish I was able to purchase some of the stuff they had available, but of course you see how much that stuff ended up going for. They had everything you saw in the movie for auction, and I mean everything. Including the Gates scrapbook at the beginning of the film, which would be nice to have. It had all the inserts, along with tons of old pictures.

Put me on the list of envious and in dire need. Do you s'pose you could just part with a pipe and no box?

When all is finished, I'll start an interest list in the junkyard, in which everyone will have the option of having the pipe with or without the box. Until then, enjoy the progress of it.

    Thanks,
    Brenton

    Hey guys,
I can say now that Phase #1 is 99.9% finished. I'm going to wait to finish up the stem part on Phase #1 so I can tweek it to fit straight and snugg onto Phase #2 (Riddled Scroll w/ stem & mouthpiece). As you can see, it's moving along nicely.

    Thanks,
    Brenton
