My Y-Wing Helmet project

Hi all,
2 years back I had made my own Y-Wing Helmet with fiberglas. It looks not movie accurate and was very heavy.I was not happy with it and sold him.
Last year if I found some great shots of a Grey two helmet from the Star Wars in concert and my dream was build a new and better one. So I had began to build it with paper templates from the pictures of the original and using cardbord, styrene many many bondo. On one picture was a Nokia 3210 Handy and I had one so I can build the helmet in the correct size (many many thanks to the photographer). If I finished my model I made a silicon mold and a fiberglas pull which I will used to vacfoam the helmet. I bring the molds to a profesional modelbuilder (can´t vacfoam myself) 2 days back and today he calling me and said my helmet are ready. I drive to him and was very surprised they looks very nice.He had made 3 for me so I paint it in Grey leader, Grey two and the third in an unknown pilot with the bat(Mynock) on front. The next step is to build the model for the correct visor. Here are a link for all steps of the helmet build:

I had spend many time and money with this project but was very very happy so that I plan to made a cool A-Wing Pilot Helmet in the next month.

Many thanks guys!
they not 100% movie accurate but it looks very very similar through the original. I am looking for a serious member here who is interessted to vacfoam some kits if I had it complete with the visor. The Modelbuilder in my town is a buisiness man and very expensive. Let me now!

Frank - I may know a few people
which continent would fit you best mate? UK, US or Germany?

heck - I'd give it a go and try to build a kitchen vac former if you get no bites mate

Wow that came out great.I`d love one if you ever got them done.:cool

Regards,
Ben

Hi,
Amazing work.

I'm "Uncle He-man", the chap that took the Y-wing Helmet pics at the O2 in London... and that was my crappy Nokia inserted for scale! I know have an iPhone.

Here are all the picas
O2 Arena Star Wars Musical Experience - a set on Flickr

I would SERIOUSLY love to get a cast of one of these, beatiful sculpt. I really hoped that my photos would lead to an accurate fan-made helmet.

Regards,
Graham

Hi Graham,
I had seen your pictures back this year and had used that for reference.
Last march I had seen the original Helmet in Oberhausen and I see I had some errors on my helmet. Its to large and some other small parts.I will go back to my project in a few weeks but will made the helmet with fiberglas.I no longer made vacfoamed helmets.
Best regards and merry christmas
Frank

I love the results of your work. Thanks for posting the pics. Y-Wings were always my favorite fighters. I always figured if I were to make a helmet it would be a cloud car pilot or a Y-wing pilot.
