My weathered Headpiece of Ra and chain..

Hey guys. Just wanted to get some opinions on my Headpiece. It was my first go with the weathering on it. Depending on the photos, it either looks REALLY weathered, or the flash makes it look like a blinding light! :rolleyes But in person, it is dark where it needs to be in the grooves, and where dirt would accumulate. Everywhere else still has a very nice shine to it. That is how I like it at least.

The chain is also my first attempt for this. I didn't have the cash to blow on one of the replicas from here, so I just made my own. The coin is not accurate by any means, nor is it meant to be. Just gonna be sitting in my collection, and just wanted something close enough to go with it! Finding a good style of chain was a pain the rear. The first one I got was just way too big, wouldn't go through the center to loop it around at all. Second chain I picked up was much better.

Just thought I'd throw these up and see if it looks passable to you guys, or if I need to do some major tweaking before I can consider myself "finished" with this one! Thanks,
Mike

Thank you! I was not at all satisfied with it when it was plain gold. It just swallowed all the details. Very fun to dirty up too!

Looks great! What did you use to weather it? I've been debating if I'll weather mine or not...

Thanks! I used the sophisticated finishes bronzing stuff you can get from michaels. It was easy to use, but dries after a few minutes. For lighter areas, I'd apply it, then wipe it.. then maybe apply again and wipe after another minue. Just depended. I used an old t-shirt and just wiped the excess away to leave it in the deep, and polish up the raised parts.

Looks great! Here is a suggestion, pop the "crystals" out, soak them in white vinegar for 24 hours and the mirror back will come off very easily. Then just use regular modeling glue to re-glue them. They will be clear all the way through!

No way?! That is awesome! Thank you for the tip, I'll try it asap. Is there a good way to pop them out? I was paranoid I would break them. Should I just apply a bit of pressure, or do I pry them out?
Thanks again!

Grab an Xacto knife with a sharp blade. Run it around the perimeter of the crystal carefully. They should "pop" out fairly easily, just take your time.

The far left and middle are ACMEARTIFACTS headpieces with clear crystals:

While I've got you here, I might as well ask. I know you are not a fan of the sideshow idol, but unfortunately it's all I can afford at this point. :unsure Mine had one or two small fingerprints that looked like they had "etched" into it or whatever on the side of the head. Any idea of how to get those off? I just barely wiped at them with my t-shirt when I opened it and they didn't wipe right off. I just wasn't sure what was safe to use! Any ideas?

Sounds like a production defect. I would suggest contacting Sideshow and getting a replacement idol. I do own one of these and they are perfect for 99% of Indy Fans. It really is a nicely done idol, I just wish they could make it right. Oh Well!

I'm not sure if I should be helping you because my brother is a Sooner! ;)

Hmm.. maybe i should return it then. Yeah, probably a good idea.

And no worries, I am not a "Husker" in that sense, just a fan of the nubsg William "husker" Adama. :)
