What is fettled my tumblewhatever?!

This is an AMAZING sculpt, and I´m very glad to see the RPF at its best there! Congratulations!!

Re: My very first Sculpt..Ever!! Sculpting the Chest Armor!! UPDATE:)

What is fettled my tumblewhatever?!
"Fettled the tumblehome" was part of the explanation given by Andrew Ainsworth as to why the rear section of the stormtrooper helmets he was currently making differed from the ones he originally made for Star Wars in 1976.

While technically that phrase does have a literal meaning if you deconstruct it, to "most people" (being general here) it sounds like funny made up language meant to confuse rather than explain something.

Like if I were to say: "Well, Bob, the reason you're noticing differences in the models is because I debracted the mandlefug prior to making the second version."

But enough about that...back to the awesome Vader sculpt!

Re: My very first Sculpt..Ever!! Armor finished and molded 3-20

I know My progress pics usually suck, So I tried to take more
so you can see the process as it get's to the final stage :)
I'll have more pics of the finished Mold, and of the first casting
to come out of the mold. I can tell you that the mold came out Great
and I'm very pleased with everything.. Thank God!! the cost of Material
now a day's is at an all time high..

I'm also hoping to have a fully painted, finished half bust by the weekend
or sometime over the weekend, So keep checking back for More Pics :D

First coat. or what some call a print coat because it's a very thin
coat that helps capture better detail while eliminating air entrapement
chestarmor3ke6.jpg

Once the Print Coat is finished all cured for an Hour I start laying
the Silicone on thick
chestarmor4ip9.jpg

And thicker..Oooooooooooooh
chestarmor5qm1.jpg

And this is the final Coat with all the little nubs sticking up :D
they look kinda funny, but really help when lining the rubber mold
with the support shell, or jacket..
chestarmor6kl0.jpg

The Support Shell will be in two pieces to make it easier to remove
the cured Casting.. I use sulfer free clay to build a barrier and then
add a registration mark for easier assembly..
chestarmor7us5.jpg

First half is done, and looks pretty good.. The trick to getting the
edges to look nice is to take a pair of scissors and cut any excess
resin off while it's still soft.. This helps eliminate a need to use
a dremel later on after it's fully cured..
chestarmor8wl8.jpg

Now the Support Shell is finished. All I have to do is wait for it
to fully cure before seperating the two halves, remove the silicone
rubber from the originals, Clean the Rubber with soapy water and then
reassemble everything for casting..
Oh, and remember to take a hair dryer to heat the rubber before casting.
The rubber get's kind of cold overnight and if it's not heated the silicone
rubber will absorb the heat given off by the resin possibly causing your
cast to come out week or brittle

Not sure how I missed this. Looks really good :thumbsup

Re: My very first Sculpt..Ever!! Armor finished and molded 3-20

Well done again, Doug!
Plus, you can do a load of whites while waiting for the mold to cure!:p

Re: My very first Sculpt..Ever!! Armor finished and molded 3-20

Great in progress shots, great thread. :thumbsup

Re: My very first Sculpt..Ever!! Armor finished and molded 3-20

Amazing work for your first sculpt.
Actually, amazing work for a sculpt period.
Love the work in progress pics.
Thanks

Re: My very first Sculpt..Ever!! Armor finished and molded 3-20

I think I need to try to scuplt...everyone's "first" sculpt is always AMAZING! Maybe that's my hidden talent, but I highly doubt that! :)

Awesome job! :thumbsup

Ha Ha :D
as a matter of fact, I have done that before..

Thank you everyone for the very kind words :)

Re: My very first Sculpt..Ever!! Armor finished and molded 3-20

Can't wait to see the cast up pieces Doug. I'd love to buy a helmet & armor later if you make them available.

I found out I can remodel stuff quite by accident, and I didn't even have the right material or tools for the job at the time. Still not using the 'right' material but instead I've sort of formulated my own material which I prefer. And thanks to my other hobby which is furniture restoration I make my own tools.

So go for it, all you have to lose is a bit of clay, and your time...

...

Oh yes the half bust will be made available. That's why it's taking so long.. I want to
make sure this thing is as Movie accurate as possible in this small size..

I have plans to make the rest of the soft and hard parts to make a movie accurate
mini Vader for myself only.. If I do release any, it will only be 2 and they will be placed on E-bay for Auction..
they will have real Leather Soft Parts like the original, and finished in either
ANH, or ESB style since the mods are easy to make..

Re: My very first Sculpt..Ever!! Armor finished and molded 3-20

Is that plastipaste you are using for the outer shell?

Re: My very first Sculpt..Ever!! Armor finished and molded 3-20

No, but I've used it and absolutely hate it.. For the support shell I use Task 6
and Fiberglass Matt.. It's super strong and yet extremely light..

Re: My very first Sculpt..Ever!! Finished, finished, :) Pics added

After much anticipation, here is the final Mini Vader Half Bust..
This little baby is for the most part Raw with little cleanup work done
to it before all the pieces were molded, and just in case anyone is
wondering the painted piece your looking at, needed no prep work other
then a quick scuff before painting

I didn't realize how much work this little ******* would be, but
I'm extremely Happy :) with how he turned out.. I was thinking I would
finish him up earlier, but totaly forgot about Easter.. Doh!!

I've appreciated all the positive feefback I've gotten about My Sculpt..
As a newbie it sure means a lot.. I'll keep updating this thread as I
Sculpt the other parts, but as I stated in a previous thread If anyone
is interested I'll only be selling the Half Bust and Maybe 2 full Mini
Vaders on Ebay..

Thanks again for all the comments and enjoy the Pics..
If you want bigger pics just let Me know :)
