My version of Thor Hammer- movie version

I have been working on my own personalized version of a Thor movie Hammer.

I have a guy about a 1/4 mile from me who has a machine shop. Anyway, i wanted to do something a little different. I bought a block and a rod of titanium. i really like the fact its strong as steel but half the weight. Don't ask how much $$$ it was, lets just say it isn't cheap.

I have been slowly hand milling it down little by little. I should have the size of the block ready in a week or two. Then i will need to work on the side cuts which will be a little harder.

Not really sure what i am going to do about the engravings. I made a 2d and 3d CAD design with all the etchings etc... People with CNC mills want an arm and a leg, but first things first.

Not posting any photos yet, as like i said it is only a big chunk of titanium.

Dude,
I make these out of solid aluminum and steel and I KNOW the cost of Titanium. I know how to machine it as well. What size did you make it?? You must have a pretty darned deep wallet!!!!

Hope its worth it for you

Is it worth it...Probably not.

I am having one heck of a time with this project. Still doing the manual machining. I am hoping to have this done in a week or two, it is going VERY slow. Then i have a guy I've gotta ship this to so he can do the engravings.

My budget was to keep everything below $1K...don't think that's gonna happen :(

Does anyone have any idea the size of the handle in the movie? I was thinking like 16 inches long?

Just got Hammer back. Still lacks a few details such as bottom grooves and runes on faces. It looks scuffed up in the photo’s but it really isn’t. It does still have to polished as some of the edges are a little sharp.

This thing gave us fits being as it Solid titanium.

I really want to have the face runes/scrollwork done as an inlay that is raised just like the movie version. Not sure if this is possible. I have a CAD design version in case I have to have it etched instead as a backup plan. Anyone have any ideas or contacts that may be able to help (I will pay them of course) with all the etch work.

The handle has been threaded ready to attach but i dont want to unto i am finished with hammer head and have leather on handle.

The handle I have at:
10" long
1.5" diameter (5" circumference)

Seems like everyone wants to make the handle too long and too thick. Especially all the big time companies. Apparently the movie version coming out by Museum Replicas has the same flaws, if not more than ever.

Yeah. My final version handle is 10" long also. The handle diameter is 1.25". I wanted it a little narrower to accommodate the leather wrap.

These arent easy or cheap are they?? I feel your pain my friend. I go thru it with the ones I make all the time. Good Luck

head dimensions are approx 8.5" long and 5.5x5

I wanted them to be 5.5x5.5x9 but i couldn't find a block close to those specs so i took what i could find.

Lets be clear...I am talking about a surplus piece of 6-4 that i lucked upon. The 700 is what i paid with s/h/insurance. So yeah, Eaglewood is right, it is likely to be a LOT more. Depends on who you know.

I aint even getting into milling costs, lets just say so far it aint cheap. Luckily i dont have too much left, just the runework which i am talking to an engraver currently and some nice polishing to buff out cuts.

the head as it currently is milled with handle hole drilled weighs in at 32.8lbs.

The runework looks outstanding in your CAD! I'd guess another $500 odd to complete your milling and handlework. Still, not a bad deal given how you're probably the only one who has a Titanium Mjolnir
