    Hey guys,

I recently got a new camera, and I thought I'd start breaking it in by firing off a couple shots of some of my recent Tennant and Eccleston sonic screw builds. Please do not share these pics or re-post them on any other website.

There's an Aussie saying I grew fond of years and years ago: S'truth!

...and in this case it sure as heck is. Fantastic, Anakin. Well and truly fantastic!

Those look AWESOME. Forgive my lack of knowledge, but are these your own hand-turned pieces, or is this a buildup of someone else's kit?

Thanks guys. Now that I finally have a decent camera, it feels good to get some of my props photographed and displayed so that I can share my work with the board.

I keep hearing how the crackel paint is a royal (female dog) to get right. Did you have any problems?

Looks good but I am confused. Are the pictures of one screwdriver or two? and is it the 9th or 10th doctor's?

Wazoo- Yes. The crackle finish on all three was a pain. I had to re-do each one a number of times.

Omega- I have an 8th Doctor's screwdriver I've made, and a third, fourth, and an eleventh Doctors' versions that I'm working on.

Dark Jedi- There are three sonics in the apove pics. The top and bottom are Tennant season 4 sonics. The middle is a version used by both Tennant and Eccleston in season 1 and then 3.

    Those really look sweet.

I may have missed a meeting, but what paint is used for the crackle finish? what color?

    Thanks.

The season 4 is a base of light grey. The two top coats of perfetto crackle glaze and clear crackle (watered down to get a smaller crackle pattern).
The Aztec sonic is a base of grey primer (only semi dry) with a very light coat of american accents cream crackle top coat (if you're in the UK use plasticoat cream topcoat).

    Hello,

Great looking sonics; they certainly look very accurate to this lay observer.

In regards to the crackle question, what implement did you use to apply the perfetto crackle size and clear crackle?

The cracke size is a b****r to apply; quite hard to get the right thickness of the coat.

    Cheers!

Sweet! Do you have any pics of the original that he might be willing to share. There is a real lack of good photos of that prop available. It makes nailing down the details of the different variations very difficult.

Thanks. I have to update the pics since I've sold all these sonics and have built new ones for myself that use the Alene's crackle that Nick used. I also have a new season 3 sonic that I've made

I think the Aztecs still used the PlastioKote paint. I think he already had the paint nailed on those.

    Thanks.

P.S Let me know if you have any sonics for sale by email or PM.

Is there a way to unscrew the bottom part and the head and collar of the sonic torch replica because I'm using the universal remote head collar and bottom part for an aztec build

Here are all the props except for the 11th hour sonic as there are no public photos of it and the prop was destroyed presumably when it was destroyed in the eleventh hour, the first and second photo is the aztec one the third is the wide slider one used halfway between season 1 and in the whole of season three the fourth one is the intermediate sonic used in the runaway bride but then with the wide slider one or the intermediate one was destroyed in smith and jones the last 2 are david tenant other two props used in the rest of series 3 and 4 also if you are wondering the wide slider one was a cannibalised aztec sonic hope this helps sonic builders.

If anyone wants more photos of the intermediate sonic then comment and I will post more photos

    Dr who props,
No offence meant, but this thread is about the builds that Dan did on his sonics, not a history of the prop or photo comparisons. Maybe you could start your own thread if you feel you have something new about the prop to share?
