My TDK Batman Costume Build

Hey everyone this is my first of hopefully many builds on this website. I'm doing a Dark Knight costume as you already know from the title. So far I'm in the midst of making a cowl. I combined a pepakura mask with omel's duct tape cowl method.

This is what I came up with. My step by step work is found on the link above.

Next I plan on smoothing out the plumbers putty sand paper once it dries. Then I will coat it with plasti-dip and pint.

I ordered an all black lycra suit that will be worn underneath everything. Here's a picture of the suit and mask. You probably can't tell but this suit is too small so I will have to get a larger one.

Next I will start working on pepakura TDK armour pieces. I'm thinking of either coating them with plasti-dip like the mask or just creating them with foam. What do you guys think?

After that is completed I will use a black drawer liner found at home depot for $4.97. Also what do you guys think of this idea?

Hopefully in the end I will have something that looks as awesome as this.

Ok guys feel free to leave any questions comments or concerns.

Off to a good start. Thinking of starting an Arkham Origins suit for Halloween, so looking at everyone's work has been great so far.

It's a good start. That's an awesome looking cowl there. And I never thought about that duck tape method. Creative. :thumbsup

Slow to making progress. I made a pep chest piece but it seems to be too small. I've been waiting for the putty to dry on the cowl so I can sand it then coat with plasti dip but as the putty drys it starts to crack in some areas. not sure what to do about this yet. Any one have some advice on this problem?

bro, the putty i use begins to harden after only a couple of minutes, and is sandable in the morning ( if the putty was applied the night before), i dont recall ever having cracked unless applied too thinly and was subjected to bending. but you are probably right in assuming that plastidip will conceal those cracks? by the way are they hairline cracks only? maybe because over here climate its hot and humid?

Well it is hot and humid in Florida so that makes sense. It wasn't just small areas that were cracking. Also I don't believe we have the same plumbers putty cause mine never dried. I think I'm going to add more putty over it and just try to get it as smooth as I can by adding more water. I think that's one thing I may have done wrong, not using enough water.

On another note I made started coating my chest piece that's too small to fit me anyways as a test dummy. I used some duct tape on it cause I messed up on one part and after I applied a few coats of the plasti dip I realized the tape was starting to peal off easily. I'm glad I found this out now so I don't make that mistake with the cowl. I'm thinking if I put a few layers of mixed glue water on it then I won't have the same problem. What do you think?

yep i believe sealing the tape with glue will help, yep we probably use different kind of putty, mine is more like epoxy based ( two part mixture, one is to one ratio of clay like substance) begins to set in a few minutes and hardens like rock in a few hours.

Loving your ideas for creating this suit, especially the drawer liner to simulate the mesh....looking forward to "borrowing" some ideas for my build :rolleyes

I was in costco and saw a similar drawer liner and my mind immediately went to the same place as yours. I'm eager to see the results you get using it to simulate the mesh. The other thing that crossed my mind was using mesh from screen doors.
