My takes on the BTTF Nike Bag- lots of pics

here's my version of the 2015 Nike Footwear bag from Back to the Future 2, i found the tube at a yardsale for 4 dollars and went to Home Depot for most of the supplies

took one night and one day start to finish

*UPDATE* 5/18
ok i made one other tube with the other half of the original one.
I've also found a larger tube with a wider diameter and hightops can fit inside. I may be able to make a few more with the same style as this one with carpet lining (for shoes and jacket to stay inside with no damage to them)

-cardboard tubing
-small hinges
-Plasti Dip spray coating
-box cutter (easier in the Home Depot tubes because they are thin) a saw wouldn't work good because it left jagged edges even with a smooth blade
-drawer pull handles ***added (taller than the first)***
-**adding carpet lining for inside

found this for 4 bucks. here it is when i bought it. i wanted to keep the chrome film on but it came off while cutting the tube in half

yes i hand cut it. took like almost 2 hours

high tops dont fit inside but mid high shoes do though

5833-blister-working-without-gloves.jpg

forgot to wear my gloves and got a blister. ugh sucked!!!

my Tron esque style gloves. Rawlings batting gloves painted black and took off the patches

5839-dsc00117.jpg

disadvantage- chrome film came off while cutting the tube
advantage- chrome film can be peeled off and used as the side windows!!

5840-dsc00125.jpg

one of my prototypes

5841-dsc00134.jpg

hinges and drawer handles installed, worked all night so have to coat it in the morning...

5843-dsc00142.jpg

morning time! as the tube is drying, i'll make a id disc to waste some time made it out of pizza boxes

5845-dsc00148.jpg

flies VERY straight but i threw it pretty hard against the wall. dont matter i can make 25 more from the pizza boxes i saved :lol

5844-dsc00146.jpg

with the windy contidion, it took about a half hour to dry, thank you wind!

5848-dsc00165.jpg

re-installed hinges and handles after it dried

5847-dsc00153.jpg

here we are!

5846-dsc00152.jpg

Amazing Jleezy!
Such a simplistic concept which looks amazing, I can't wait to see the finished product.
Kind regards Jason. :)

Re: My take on the BTTF Nike Bag-progress pics included

thanks that will help a lot! i got another half of the tube so i'm gonna buy the correct saw blades and work on another bag after the weekend is over

Re: My take on the BTTF Nike Bag-progress pics included

Gna buy some liner for the inside then try on the windows again, if all goes well i'll put my second one in the JY n put the funding towards a bigger and screen accurate version

This is weird, Doc twists something and the window gets de-fogged, it doesnt show what the heck he does

Here you can see the windows are flexing like the plastic i tried using. However, i will be using a plexiglas type vinyl

the tubes are Sakrete form tube found at Home Depot, they use em to make concrete columns. They come with both inner and outer tubes and are 4ft long so enough to make 2 at a time. The diameter is about 13 inches. The length is 20 inches, unfortunately i am not sure how long the original was in the movie so i'll stick with 20 to 21 for now

Very likely it was some other trick but it did appear to be electrochromatic or "smart glass" which is a LCD that is cloudy until turned on and then becomes clear.

Re: My take on the BTTF Nike Bag-progress pics *version 2.0 under construction*

Checked out smartglass.com, looks b.a! Thanks for the info

Re: My take on the BTTF Nike Bag-progress pics *version 2.0 under construction*

Back at it again, I still haven't bought vinyl windows for the 2.0 version but i've bought new handles that will be more durable than my last version's.

Last set of handles:

The last set handles' PlastiDip peeled off due to the plastic, I went with wooden ones this time so the spray can absorb in and stay on. I may put on 2 coats on the tube (NOT JUST ONE!) LOL

And after all this is done, i still need to find foam bike handle covers to keep the 2 handles together like it shows when Doc is holding it up

Re: My take on the BTTF Nike Bag-progress pics *version 2.0 under construction*

Good grief Bantha dung. Did i say "durable?" Next time i'll use the screwdriver instead of the drill.
