My super quick Roman costume from rennaissance armor

I found out that I'd be atending a "before ******" themed bar crawl this last weekend for memorial day weekend. I defintiely didnt want to just wear some lame store bought costume, so I though of building a full roman centurion armor. I had 2 days, so that wasn;t exactly practical. because this was just a fun event, I decided to co-opt my Renn Faire armor to become a roman. It actually wasn;t that hard. No reenactor would be happy, but everyone was quite impressed at the roaming party.

Here's my normal armor for faire.

I decided to order a red roman tunic. I know, its super easy to make, but time was a factor. i picked up the UC red tunic.

As always, I find it much easier to work in cardboard first when mocking anything up. That way I make all my mistakes and adjustments before I waste any leather.

Here's a pic of me laying out the width and concho placement. Sorry about it being blurry. You can see where I measured leather width, and where the belt would end up being.

In this pic I have already cut the leather, using the cardboard and a hard metal ruler as a template guide for my cutter. I used this pick to punch a hole through the cardboard and leather so I knew where to punch for the conchos. btw, conchos are the emblems... thats just a leather term.

Because this is being added to an exisiting war belt, and I didnt want to ruin the other costume, I decided to simply button this to the other leather with some hidden buttons. Here's how the belt looks with the roman portion added.

Here's a closeup of the roman portion.

And here is how I buttoned it into the belt.

I was actually realy suprised how well everything went together considering how haphazzard the entire costume was. Maybe I'm just picky, but a roman tunic, the addition to the belt, changed out my normal sword for a Gladius I had on the wall and voila... instant roman. My buddy bought me a wreath the morning of the event for 3 bucks, and I'm instant royalty... haha!

here's me and a few friends who got the "hercules" online costume. They made for good royal guards!

Sweet for a quickly done costume. Very straight lines and much attention to placement of the rivets. Nice. Helmet next year?

Oh, we definitely did have a good time. Something like 8 bars, a full day, going from bar to bar on bicycles! I guess i should post pics of the girls eh?

My girl was cleopatra.. so of course, this was Mark Antony!

Thanks bud! Next year will likely be a different theme, but yeah, a centurion uniform is something I've always wanted to do. A helmet will likely have to be added.
