My SS TIE Fighter

I had a question earlier about the mold for the wingstar. So here's the mold.

I could have done a fiberglass jacket and used less silicone but at this point I was willing to spend the money to save time and effort.
I've started masking in preparation for painting. It took me almost 2 hours to mask one wing, uggh!

Also, one wing is going to look better than the other, because as I was carrying my TIE from my apartment to my car the other day, one half of a wing fell to the ground and then tumbled down a flight of stairs, hit the ground, and slid into my front door. What a day. I was able to repair it for the most part, but one section of Koolshade is a little wavy now.

Alright, I was doing fine today ‘til this post popped up in my email… I almost just had a heart attack myself reading that Jonathan!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!! NOOOOOO!!! Glad you were able to save it!

I would never leave the house with it, or any part of it! Move the workshop to the house! Haha! Just have to laugh about it to get past stuff like that, don’t you? Hard to laugh sometimes though.

AARRGGHH! I felt the pain of that wing making this trip to your front door.:eek::oops::oops: Maybe that's the title of a thread: "Accidents in model/prop building":p:sick:

I feel like just that one wing with vintage Koolshade, framed in a shadowbox, would make an awesome piece of wall art. It's so visually satisfying, and your layout of the Koolshade is perfection itself. I also just really like how the TIE fighters were painted "factory fresh" rather than worn and beat up like the rebel ships.

It was surprisingly satisfying and exciting to get a wing complete with all the Koolshade, I-beam and paint. It also gets a lot bigger when you put the wings on.

I think the best TIE I've ever seen outside the archives...a stunning achievement!.
Stu, I don't know what to say to that. Except thank you! That is very high praise, I really appreciate it! Especially coming from someone whose work I am so impressed by.
I'm sure you thought about the decals on that bird also ;)
Yep, that's one of the last things I have to do at this point.
