My SS TIE Fighter

Thanks a lot everybody! I really appreciate it.

joberg, the screws are there to plug the bleeder holes in the mold jacket. I drill small holes in the high spots of the jacket to eliminate trapped air pockets in the silicone.

I finally molded the body to my TIE Fighter. I don't really enjoy making matrix molds. My molds never come out as clean as I would like, especially when I compare them to the professional mold makers I work with. well at least they worked.
on with the pics...

And finally....I've actually started to build my TIE Fighter. Most of the parts in these pictures are just on temporarily.

Got it...so you drill the holes when the mold + jacket is removed from the model I gather? Any screw will do; I see that you used plaster wall screws:unsure:

Yeah, remove the jacket, remove the clay, clean up the jacket, drill holes, and then put the jacket back in place.
At work (where I was making the molds) we use drywall screws for everything.

Is there a part map for the cockpit interior. I'm mostly curious about the grating used for the floor. Was that a kit part or a found item. There might not have even been a floor in the SS Tie. I just see them in some models.

There's no grating in the actual TIE model. It's just flat, There's no floor really. There is a grating looking thing on the ceiling.
Ok cool I thought so, but wanted to ck. You see the floor in some 3d models and the Mpc kits. Probably an extrapolation from the full size sets. Thanks !

Well technically they aren't entirely castings. they are the pylon supports off of my first TIE Fighter castings. I cut them off the hull and then shaved off all the details that aren't on the end supports. I then added all the new parts that are on the end pieces. I still have to mold these new parts. Luckily what's left of the old hull can be used for my TIE X-1.
