My Small Collection

Hi, my name's Derick and I've become interested in movie props over the last year or so and have been building a modest collection with the limited funds I have (my wife and I are currently full time students). That being said, I am pretty proud of the small collection I've gathered, though it's not near as impressive as some other collections I've seen on this site.

But I want to share what I've got so far with you guys anyway. Some of these items I've bought, while others I've made myself, mostly thanks to the Paper Props forum. Anyway, here are some pictures:

My whole collection (tucked away in the corner on a bookshelf, lol):

My Anakin episode II and Obi-Wan episode IV Master Replicas mini lightsabers. (I had a Luke episode IV LE but had to sell it for my wedding...:cry) I wanted a saber from each of the trilogies.

Lord of the Rings The one Ring, I couldn't afford all the ones I was shopping around for on different web sites, but found this one for under $10 and thought it'll do for right now. Plus I really wanted the chain with the ring and this one included it.

I picked this claw up on eBay for about $7 and was very please with it. It's not really screne accurate but I still like it a lot. And it included a shark tooth replica with it as well that's serving as my Jaws prop right now.

Here's the claw with some other Jurassic Park props I have. No, the shaving cream can doesn't open up, it's just a $1.50 from WalMart, lol. Again,I got the paper props from the Paper Props forum here.

I picked up this Two-Face coin on eBay for a little over $10 and was very pleased with the detail on it, plus it's lots of fun to flip.

Here it is with some paper props.

Next I've got a stack of plain old poker chips I just picked up from a second hand store for like a buck, which are serving as my Casino Royale prop right now. When I get the money I'd like to get an algerian love knot necklace.

I printed off the Sarah Connor photo and did the weathering on it myself, I was happy with how it turned out, it was my first real try at weathering anything. I know the photo's not exactly screen acurate but I did my best to make it so.

And the original version.

Now Superman's not one of my favorite movies but I thought this scene was clever in the movie. And I thought it was a fun idea for a prop.

I'm currently shopping around for an Indiana Jones prop, but for the time being this is what I've got: a Raiders of the Lost Ark map. I was actually very happy the way this turned out, I printed out a clean version and did the weathering myself.

I made this Grey's Sports Almanac, though it didn't turn out perfect, by printing off the cover and sticking it on an old TV Guide issue.

And the photo of Marty and his siblings I got from these forums.

Last, I've got a Sirius Black wanted poster from Harry Potter. This one was simple, just print off and do a tiny bit of weathering. I think it looks great though.

Well thanks for looking! It's been a lot of fun gathering these different props up. You guys don't even know me but have helped me out a ton due to the stuff you post on this site, so thanks for that. I look forward to learning more about props and prop making and getting to know you guys.

Next on my list to get: the top/totem from Inception! :thumbsup

Great collection, mate; I like how you have a little bit of everything in there. The One Ring looks pretty nice, especially for that price tag. I might have to look for one of those myself. Thanks for sharing!

nice start, I like the fatc you have a bit of everything aswell, I am just starting out and it is so nice to see small sollections.

Very nice! I like how you did it all on limited funds and yet came up with a very respectable collection. :thumbsup

My collection at the moment is pretty small at the moment having only gotten interested in props and replicas this year. However I did score a full size Iron Man statue (used to promote Iron Man 2 in the cinemas) from a friend who works in the local one.

So keep up the good work and make friends with people who work at the movies :p

Welcome to the RPF! Your collection looks great. In fact, it reminds me a lot of how I got hooked on prop-collecting in the first place. Be careful of those paper props! They'll lead to other things, like selling your blood to fund your growing obsession! (I haven't quite gotten to that degree yet...but close.) :lol

Thanks for the comments and welcomes! I originally just started picking up an item from each of my top ten favorite films but it slowely got a little more when I found out about the paper props (though I haven't started sellig blood...yet ; ) )

Serenity, I was pleased with the ring especially, as you said, for the price of it. It looks nice a feels sturdy.

randomist, your Iron Man statue sounds awesome! I'll have to go scouring movie theaters it looks like.
