Hey evereryone I just wanted to post My 3rd Sculpting project since
I've began Sculpting.. I've been tied up with other things, so I haven't
had a chance to work on him like I want too, so please excuse the fact
that he has a long way to go. I mostly sculpted everything in a week,
but like I said I have a lot of detail work to go.. He's almost 1:1:, Almost lol :D

I've run into a jam and was wondering if some of you could help me make
a decision.. I'm at a point where I'm either gonna Sculpt the Hair or use
synthetic hair to put on the finished casting once complete..

First: What do you think I should do for the hair
Sculpted Or Synthetic
Second: if you think Synthetic, where might I get it?

Thanks in advance to all that can help
I guess I'll keep this a work in progress thread
I just hope it doesn't take me too long to finish lol :D

The Second Picture is just a little PS fun to see what
he would look like with hair and Eyes..

Absolutely stunning. I am about to start my own original POTA gorilla sculpt that I hope to make into a mask, similar to my 70's Don Post masterpiece that is now long gone.

I too would go real hair. Shouldn't be too expensive since it's just the head.

I found some horse hair on Ebay that looks interesting.

What kind of clay did you use? Is it super-sculpy?

NFT is crazy expensive, but stunning stuff. I got some samples for a Santa Suit (Polar Bear and 4 inch White Shag) and it was $40. The Polar Bear is $120 a yard I believe. I think all their stuff is on a fabric just like Fun Fur. I may be wrong but I think that's the case.

Style and cut a wig and use the excess for punching the hairline. Close, and could be found cheaper this was a quick search and the first thing that came up.

Ape Mania has the pieces made already.

I just got done researching hair and ended up at my local Sally's Beauty Supply. Had what I needed on close out for $2.00 a run. The run is 18 inches long and 4 feet wide. I was able to take my wife, who's a hairdresser, use her card, and get 20% off of that. Bigfoot gets fluffier.

The original was Yak. Horse hair is really thick and coarse, and you won't be able to style it. It's so thick in fact it's braided for hat bands and stampede strings. It won't ever look like anything but horse hair. They used it on the big Kong stuff, the life size hands and such, because it's so big and thick.

Ok I've decided to go with synthetic hair.. :)
Now does anyone else have some suggetions as
to where I could get good looking stuff?

National Fiber Technologies:

PreFur has great stuff too:

I think this might help:

It's hard to get anything over 4 inches.

A wig, man, look at wigs. It can be really cheap to do and if you cut a style it the leftovers can be used for your hair line. It's what the originals were.

I haven't worked on this project since I left for vacation back in August..
Eeeks  I started cleaning up the eyes Monday since their the furthest
back, and hardest to capture the type of expression i'm going for.. I'm pretty
happy with the eyes, but I know I'll change something lol :D I always do......

cool,is it easier to work with than chavant nsp soft?

I wish I could give you an answere on that.. This is my Second Sculpt and I've
been working with Super Sculpey since I started.. A lot of the Pro's use Chavant
and seem to like it.. I like the Super Sculpey because once your done you can
bake it and then paint it, or if you prefer to make a mold of your sculpt you
don't have to worry about Silicone cure inhibition with the unbaked Sculpey,
since it has no sulfer..

If you like a firm clay, go with the Super Sculpey Firm

How big around is he just above the eyebrows?

He looks great so far, but he needs some thrilling headgear. Yessiree... what you need... is a helmet... :D

That's bad Ass Sarge! Is this a sculpt your working on? I'd love to see
more pictures of it, the face too :D

Yeah I need to work on his helmet next. I've been brainstorming trying to
figure out the quickest way to make this
