Over a year ago I recieved a finished Roddenberry.com deluxe nemisis phaser. I really wanted to add electronics to it. I then started the project, and when drilling out the button holes I damaged the paint. After stripping it all off to start over I decided I wanted to totally refit the phaser to make it look like the one being opened up in the movie.
Well its been awhile for this, but I have made a great amount of progress in the past month.
First I glued the existing removable cover onto the phaser. I then cut the forward section loose. Next I ground out sections to add the guide rods, and magnets. I turned the clear rods from clear plexi, and attached them to a cover I fabricated on the body side. When I was cleaning up the body I found that there were a few more bubbles in both the grips than I like so I set out to replace them. I ground out the upper grip, and greated new masters out of styrene. I then molded them, and cast them in rubber. To keep the lower grip rigid I cast the new handle in resin then ground off between an 1/8th, and 1/16th of material from the outer surface so that I could place it back in the mold, and pour rubber around it.
Next I intend to do electronics, but at least it can now be displayed.
