Hello everyone. I decided to take a break from one of my long term projects to paint up my MFX Sonic. I bought this a while back from another member with a few scuffs in the paint job. I stripped the original paint using Purple Power and repainted with white primer + crackle medium with a light grey wash to bring out the crackle. The blue strip inlay is a piece of plastic from a blister card package painted with a transparent blue from valspar.

On a side note, this is my first and, if i can help it, my last foray into using crackle painted props. I took me something like 10 tries to get the crackle effect I wanted...ugh.

Looks just as amazing. I hope to get my Self an MFX sometime soon. May I ask what base type paint dod you use, was it acrylic, oil, water, Exc...?

1) strip paint
2) sand with 200 grit sand paper
3) spray with rustoleum white primer
4) thin one step crackle (roughly 70% rubbing alcohol, 30% medium
5) apply via airbrush while turning piece(I used one of those rubbish single action airbrushes from michaels...works great *irony*
6)wait and sweat bricks and hope to powers that be that the crackle patterns turn out just right (if it does, proceed to step 9, if not, proceed to step 7)
7) strip paint with purple power de-greaser
8) repeat steps 3-7 and begin swearing profusely after attempts 5
9) apply clear coat (I use Krylon gloss)

Has anyone tried this as my paint keeps flaking off & I'd really like to try it these results look great. So, any tips out there?

Cheers

Try using an etching primer instead, then use an acrylic white paint. This will make it adhere better to the metal, and the crackle medium is designed to work with acrylics. Anything else will tend to peel. Also, the stuff thins nicely with water.
