I’m a huge fan of Stanley Kubrick’s work. Here is my attempt at recreating one of the most iconic props in War film cinema history. The Private Joker (Matthew Modine) M1 Helmet he wore in Full Metal Jacket. I first used a direct postwar Mitchell camo cover. The M1 steel and helmet liner and chinstraps are original wartime 1960’s era. The Chiclets gum are vintage from the 60’s. I still need to dirty weather it a bit and sun bleach it. But here it is.

I’m meeting Matthew Modine for the second time in early November for him to sign it, maybe he will even put it on for a photo ;)

That is fantastic. I love it so much that it could be yet another prop...

On another note, i was given a bollocking at work one day when i used to work in the Tool Hire industry. I wrote 'born to kill with the Kill crossed out and replaced by Hire 'born to hire' on my hard hat ,chucked an empty cig packet and some.gum on there aswell as the bullseye. My area director wasnt too impressed but saw the funny side eventually.

that got lost somewhere :)

Marine!
You put Born to kill on your Helmet and have a peace symbol...is that some kind of sick joke?!?

lol

I saw that movie so many times and one day realized that guy yelling at him was the same
actor in ESB that gave the orders on Hoth. The guy that says to Han "You're a good fighter, Solo. Hate to lose you."

Very nice indeed. Perhaps put the cover through the washing machine a couple of times so that it fades and weathers a little.

Great result, thanks for sharing.

Fantastic job and good repro of an iconic prop. A bit of Javex (not too much) and a few washes with pumice stones will do the trick of making the cover "used and abused" (y) (y)
