My Props (Warning: Graphic Heavy)

Hello fellow Replica Prop Builders and Collectors. I know I posted what I had for props in the new members post, but I didn't have any pictures of them. So, I figured I'd go ahead and post these pictures of the replicas I had. Note: I have not included any of my paper props that I have posted here, nor have I included any of my Works-in-Progress (when I do, I'll post the pictures of them here). Anyways, here the props I have:

This is an official Indiana Jones Fedora, or as I call it "My Indiana Jones Pimp Hat". I normally wear it when I play first person shooters, in order to tap into my inner Indy.

These are my Wayfarers, circa 1980s. These are knock-offs that originally belonged to my sister back in the 1980s. Of course, the Wayfarers are seen in many 1980s movies, including "The Blues Brothers" and "Less Than Zero" (I tried to recreate the pose by Robert Downey, Jr. on the DVD, but it was blurry, and this close up shot came out much clearer. At least the hair seems rather fitting).

Okay, this isn't really a replica or a prop, but you never know who, or what, you'll run into. So, just in case I run into someone with some fangs, I've got my Tru Blood Vampire Safety Kit for emergencies.

IMG_7169.jpg

I snagged the picture of Laurie Strode from the Rob Zombie "Halloween" from here a few months back. Originally, I had no intention to print it out, but for the short film I was the prop master on, I had five 8x10 frames that needed photos. So, I went ahead and printed it and it was used in the short.

I will admit, near my hometown, there's a lot of cabins, and I swear, one of them looks like it could be perfect for an Evil Dead film. The only problem is, it's not so far out in the middle of the woods, as there's a house next door to it and it's near a highway. Anyways, this is my Necronomicon, an official replica for the "Evil Dead" DVD from Anchor Bay.

Okay, as you guys know, I'm a BSG fan, especially for the newer series. The Sharon "Athena" Agathon dogtags pictured I picked up at MegaCon earlier this year. I chose Athena because she is my favorite character, if not my favorite Cylon model out of the Twelve. And I have been wearing them quite a lot (honestly, the stuff they used to "tarnish" the dogtags is rubbing off the edges, the hole where the chain feeds through and in the middle of the colonial symbol on one of them. Recently, I went to Best Buy and bought their Limited Edition boxset for Season 4.5, which came with an Exclusive Character Profile Book (which already had info that I already knew about the characters) and a pair of Collectible dogtags of Commander/Admiral William "Husker" Adama.

IMG_7180.jpg

In addition to the dogtags, I also have two sets of ranking pens (Lieutenant and Captain ranks) as well as a BSG patch I picked up (also from MegaCon). I still haven't decided if I want to use the patch and pins for a set of Colonial Blues, Colonial Grays, Colonial Greens or if I should just buy myself a bag and just have the patch on that.

This is one of two technical manuals I have. I picked this tech manual from an antique store for only $12. The other technical manual I have is the Doctor Who Technical Manual (which is back at home with my parents).

Well, I've considered if I should post the props I'm currently working on. But I figured I'd hold off until I get them done and post the pictures of them instead. Hope you guys like these. And more to come.

Here's my latest addition:

When I saw "Crank" in the theaters, I didn't notice it. But it was after I realized last year, after watching "Crank" one night, winding down from a long day at work at a call center for DirecTV, I realized that I had the same set of CDs. Of course, I had used them all and had decided not to scroll it on one of my music CDs (seriously, how odd would that be?). But recently, I was cleaning up some of my items I had boxed up and I found one of the CDs that apparently didn't have anything on it except for a .bat file. So, I decided to use that for my replica of the F*#K YOU CD seen at the beginning of the film. I decided to post a censored copy of the picture because I don't know how many people here are older than 18 years of age. Unless someone says otherwise, I'll keep the censored picture up and not replace it with the uncensored version.

I always loved those evil dead DVD's. I have one, but unfortunatly the latex has rotted out really bad.

I'm sorry to hear about your Necronomicon, Stapleton. I guess I'm a bit lucky, as I tend to take care of my DVDs and their cases a lot better than anything else. I know I've had the "Book of the Dead" for a few years now. I can't remember when I bought it, but I know I had it before going to FSU in 2005.

But don't let it get you down, okay? I mean, I've come across tons of tutorials on Instructables on how to make your own version of the "Evil Dead" Necronomicon. Maybe you can make a new book for your prop replicas and your DVD collection too. I've even toyed around the thought of doing one myself, even though I have the one in the picture.

Yeah, I've kept my ED1 & ED2 Books of the dead in their plastic sleaves. The less they're exposed to air, the better. Plus my ED1 is autographed by the 3 girls and the man himself, Bruce. :love

Nice, TridCloudwalker. Having all three of the ladies and the King himself signing it... That's just awesome. Honestly, I haven't had mine in its sleeve in years, but it appears to be holding up okay (as you can see in the picture). I'm beginning to wonder if maybe I should worry. Well, I'll keep my cool until it starts to fall apart. If it does, then I guess I'll be doing my on Book of the Dead replica.

Not a new addition, but it's a part of my collection at my home and my apartment:

I'll have to look for the photo, but back in 2006, I went on vacation to Washington, D.C., and I was lucky enough to see the Declaration of Independence. I went to the gift shop, wondering to see if they had replicas of the declaration, and if it was really the $19.95 if they had them. Well, the gift shop did have replicas (at full scale and about a half the size). But I was surprised to find out the replicas were not $19.95, but $9.95. So, I snagged one, so now I've got an official replica of the Declaration of Independence, as seen in "National Treasure" (and even more ironic, the gift shot had copies of the film for sale too).

For that CD, you should rip your copy of Crank to your PC and edit the video into one solid piece as best you can and burn it onto the disc. Then you can actually put it in the drive and play it. Nice collection.

Thanks, Risu. But like I said, by the time I had realized that the CD used in the film was the same CD-Rs that I had, it was some time after I had already used all of them. I haven't been able to find any other store that still caries them with the same cover design, but I was lucky to find the one CD with only the .bat file on it. All the other CDs were used for either data or music CDs I burnt for myself. Honestly, if I could find one that wasn't recorded on, that idea of burning a copy of "Crank" onto it would be a great idea. :D

BTW, if anyone has any questions about the items I have listed or what I'm going to have as my next item, feel free to ask.

That disc is NOT screen accurate!!!:rolleyes

What?
I was just saying it before someone else did!

You got some really cool stuff there!!:thumbsup

Cool stuff there. Really nice.

However, before anyone else mentions it, I should tell you that the "official" indiana jones hat is "official" in licensing only. There is nothing screen accurate about the hat. If you want a real screen accurate hat, you should check out www.indygear.com/cow.

The hat you are showing is the same hat that I bought when I first got into this crazy stuff, and I have since thrown it away after comparing it to the real hats.

Just a heads up, but you do have some really good stuff there!

I will admit, I didn't have a fat magic marker like the one used to scroll the words onto it, but I assure you, the disc is the same brand and model as the CD featured in the film. Thank you though.

Additional Info: The CD used in the film, which happens to be the same kind I had (and used for my replica), is a TDK Data CD-R (80 min, 700MB), Model# CD-R80CB50T (the link has a picture of the case with the same label as the one I still have).

Thanks for you comments. Yeah, the hat may not be accurate to that in the film (honestly, you can see in the show that it has the pewter "Indiana Jones" name tag on there), but I still like it, even if it's not 100% accurate. But I'll definitely check out the site you gave me the heads up on. Thanks again. :D

You lucky dog. I wish I had known about this problem before it happened. I displayed it above my DVD collection for all to see, and noticed a year or so later that it was cracking all over, and That was that.

WARNING!!!The following is not for the weak.

That is a tragedy. I'm beginning to wonder if that's what I've got to look forward to. I may end up putting it into a ziplock bag if it means reducing the risk. How much time did it take to go from perfect/good condition to beginning to crack?

I going to guess it was about a year when I noticed it cracking.

About a year? Well, my DVD has been exposed for years (I bought my copy of the Book of the Dead edition back during 2004 (I remember it was well before I went to FSU in 2005) and it hasn't have that kind of reaction yet. But maybe I'll start putting the DVD in a ziplock bag, just in case.

Okay, guys, I've got a couple of questions to ask.

Now, as you guys may have gathered with the picture of my BSG dogtags, the one I've been wearing is having a minor problem.

Here's the situation: The dogtags, for those who do not have them, are not naturally aged. Apparently, the company, Quantum Mechanix, that made them use some sort of unknown "gunk" as I can describe it to give them their aged appearance. Well, since I picked up the dogtags I've been wearing from MegaCon since March, the gunk is not only rubbing off the dogtags, but are collecting in small spots, revealing the untarnished metal underneath. The same thing is true not just for the tags, but for the chain as well.

First off, has there anyone else that has had this problem with the Quantum Mechanix dogtags?

If so, should I remove the rest of the gunk off the tags and chains?

And if I should, should I retarnish them?

And if i retarnish them, how do I go about doing it?

Any info appreciated.

Also, pictures coming soon: my "Manhunter" Will Graham badge.

If you're going to continue to wear them regularly, Just remove the faux tarnish and let them weather naturally. My tags arent QMx, but they're still solid brass, and I wore them everyday for about a month, and the got dark in the recesses, and shiney on the edges. I personally think they look quite nice. If you retarnish them, the same thing will happen again. The human body has an uncanny knack of breaking things down.

Okay. Thanks for the heads up. I just need to figure out how to remove the faux tarnish without having to just scrape it off and damaging the tags.
