My OSCS EPIII 501st Helmet

Here's some photos from my OSCS helmet build. I owned one of Master Replicas 501st Legion Helmets, but was never pleased with the scale, missing neck trim, or the paint job. So I decided to sell it and create one of my own.

Right out of the box:

Required some minor surface work with some Bondo. I cleaned up most of the lines with a file.

I sanded some of the "egg shell" texture out of the paint. Then started making for the blue trim.

Screwed up a little on the back, but ...

Next: gray and black trim

Between colors, I began the weathering process on the blue stuff. I just used an Xacto blade, and a sanding block.

Then the teeth

I taped a lens material in there, just out of curiosity, but I'm still not done.

The supplied comlink didn't really fit to scale, so I made my own out of some washers and a couple screws. Then cast them in silicone, eventually making it out of a plastic resin.

Just needs a little bit of cleaning up and it should be good.

Great looking helmet. What size grit did you use throughout the sanding process? Did you seal the helmet after it was done?

At first, I thought you went a bit overboard with the weathering on the blue stripe, but boy was I wrong. The end product looks great as does your other helmets. Very well done.

impressive paint job. I love that you took pictures throughout the entire process. It really helps those of us who are unsure on how to do it right. Great job man!

Haven't seen an OSCS helmet in person, but I do own an MR clone, what's the size comparison?

MR scaled their clone helmets up like 5 or 10 percent. Plus they cut off the neck trim, so that you could wear it.

Great job on that!

Thanks!

Very fine, like 250 or 300 I believe.

Thank you sir! I tried to match what I saw in Ep III, on the landing platform at the Jedi Temple. The "I'm sorry Sir, it's time for you to leave!" scene. :)
