My New ESB Vader!!!!! (New Pics)

After waiting about 2 and 1/2 months I have aquired my new ESB Vader. I know the opinion of this maker hasn't been good in the past but it is a JB V2 and the helmet looks AWESOME!!! I didn't wait half as long as I was thinking I was going to have to...which is a big relief. I can post better pictures later but this is the one I do have right now. The mounting ring warped during shipping but I am being sent a new one. This is a good start for my ESB Vader as I only had a few minor Vader costume pieces before this so its the real start as I see it. Like I said I will post better pictures soon...probably once I get the new mounting ring..let me know what you think!

Re: My New ESB Vader!!!!!

Very nice helmet. Does the dome sitting that high have to do with the warped mounting ring? Either way it goes, that is a damn fine piece.

Re: My New ESB Vader!!!!!

I only think the eyes look a bit to big... Is it only me?

Re: My New ESB Vader!!!!!

Yeah, must be the mounting ring playing with where the helmet sits. I have seen others of these and, especially with the slightly lengthened dome, they usually sit very nicely on the faceplate.

I think the angle of the photo is making it look even more off, because of the black in the eye sockets I think it is making those look bigger than normal as well.

Anyway, nice acquisition!

Re: My New ESB Vader!!!!!

The dome strip looks too sharp for ESB, the dome eyebrows seem to continue into the strip like ANH, the ESB should be flat. Better photos will help.

Actually the eyebrows do continue into the center ridge in ESB, though a bit softer than in ANH. The strip was flat in ROTJ.

Re: My New ESB Vader!!!!!

The JB V2 is a very nice helmet and I love JB's work. I know this usually causes alot of arguements with the Vader fanatics, but here's some comparisons (in varying angles and photograph distances).

This one's a picture of my V2 against the real deal ESB:

And here's a TM ESB vader, which is casted off an actual ESB helmet:

As far as I'm concerned, it looks enough like ESB vader to me so all the nit picks about small details being off from the OG helmet bother me not. The only thing that bugs me a bit is the bottom of the center ridge not being round enough. Also, how many other vendor's out there readily offer a close to accurate, fan scultped ESB?

This is absolutely not the case. An actual ESB helmet would have had the chin vent cut away and had the flange attached to the top of the faceplate. The TM chin vent was not cut out and had no such flange.
I do not believe that the TM helmet is an actual ESB helmet or even made during the time of the films. There are multiple sources out there for authentic castings (as lots have been made over the years) and there is no way to distinguish between a screen used, production made, or a piece made a month ago without all the detailing and finishing accessories used on the screen used pieces. Anyone who says differently just doesn't know any better.
I feel it is a lot of wishful thinking on the part of the people who own that helmet to say it is anything but an authentic cast that had aspects resculpted by hand no less.
I'm only speaking up because of the above statement, and it sucks to see incorrect info repeated so much that they become community "truths".

Re: My New ESB Vader!!!!!

Thanks all! I will post some better pictures as soon as I get the mounting ring replaced. One thing though.... I inquired about paint for a small chip on the grey painted area under the right eye..well more so the corner of the right cheek. Any thoughts on what paint to use if I am not able to secure the right paint from him?

Re: My New ESB Vader!!!!!

Edit...cant be bothered to put you in your place again Gino, I disagree with you.

Well, I am interested in hearing it. I have never known GINO to speak up unless he knows what he is saying is unequivocally true. We know the TM has been repaired, so that kinda takes away from the original status of the helmet.

Qui, If readers want to experience the same arguments and debates that have taken place on the Den then by all means.

There is a pattern happenning, Gino got refused 2 TM domes and since then he has been on a rampage to discredit it at every opportunity. It is so predictable and most people know this.

As for the tubes, yes they were restored, many tusk tubes are broken on authentic helmets, not all, but quite a few. :thumbsup

I know about the breaks. Such a fragile spot on the masks. As far as the discussions over the Vader lids that occur on the Den, there are people here who will likely never register there, so any discussions would not fall on deaf ears, but should occur in a thread other than this showoff thread.

That's why I edited my response so the thread did not get derailed. I also didn't want people to experience 20 pages of debate. Gino and I are stubborn, the difference is I have no hidden agenda. It doesn't matter what I own, I own serval good pieces, If the TM is not what it is than fine, but that's not the case at all. Anyone who knows me knows I am the most fussy and anal person regarding ESB Vader. I have no problems saying something is not quite right etc..It's obvious it's not finished regarding the fixing mounts etc..but IMO it was production. I understand what Gino is saying in terms of old moulds and casts vs new moulds and a cast pulled yesterday. This is the only example of a pure ESB dome in a good condition despite it's age other than in Private hands.

We'll just have to settle this at another place another time eh Paul?
No more derailment from me other than to state for the record that I disagree with everything Paul said.
