Hi guys! I am currently out of the country, on vacation, but I couldn’t wait to share this with you!

One of my prop dreams is to own an original prop relating to Boba Fett. While I still haven’t quite reached that ultimate goal, I have just come a step closer and picked up a truly awesome piece of Boba Fett replica history; an extremely early casting of the Preproduction #2 Boba Fett helmet! In fact, based on a number of details, I believe this is one of the earliest known castings, alongside the Ken Tarallo Ultracal plug!

While I will have a more thorough breakdown of the helmet, sharing more details next week, when I have returned home, I have written a preliminary article over at the Dented Helmet going over the history and some of the findings this new casting has brought to light. Hope you enjoy it, and can’t wait to get back home so I can share more with you about it!

congrats on the new addition to your collection. I know how it feels to pick up an amazing item that you been searching for.

I must admit. I am pretty ignorant when it comes to star wars props, but I just learned a whole lot of new history regarding the boba fett production helmet #2...

Just rad the article! Cant wait for the rest! whoa look at those bumps!
And congrats sir!

Well, there are casts that have straight ears (Tarallo) and there are casts that have concave ears (McCune and others). Of course each of these varieties have their own characteristics, but the ear characteristics alone seem to define a mystery surrounding the casting chain of events with the original helmet.

Chris, there is no question that this new helmet doesn't answer every question, and I doubt there will ever be a time when every question we have is answered to our satisfaction, but this definitely bring us one step closer to knowing the history a bit more thoroughly.

The Tarallo definitely came first. No question. I believe while Ken got a few details wrong the Tarallo Ultracal plug was indeed the first piece to come out of the 2nd Gen mold. The mold was damaged taking the Ultracal plug out (as Ken has always maintained) and then at some later date, the mold was repaired the the McCune helmet was cast from the same (but repaired) mold. I can't tell you WHEN the McCune was taken. Could have been minutes, could have been years. I tend to think it was years later and possibly the mother mold had taken some additional damage. As Singleseat pointed out, while the McCune shares all of the same issues as the Tarallo, it also has a few additional issues as well. The COOL part is unlike any other casting we have seen, the McCune helmet has ALL of the details found on the original Preproduction #2 Boba Fett helmet, as does the Ken Tarallo plug!

Congratulations on such a cool piece! And thanks for sharing the info. :thumbsup

On a side note, it makes me sad every time I see those cut lines on the back of the pre-pro helmet... just sad :cry

Art...WOW..I am so impressed with this helmet and your decision to have Fettpride clean it up for you. I cant wait to see more pics of the finished product!!

I am certainly looking forward to getting the finished helmet in hand!

With those pictures I can certainly see the appeal of this helmet. And this is what I find so intriguing about the Fett community and you in particular - things are shown and discussed pretty openly and clearly and there's no need to squint to try to make out what is said and shown. It's right there for all to see. The paint detail and scratches in the cast that are matched to the original are awesome.

I take it this will be painted like the original it was cast from!?

Thanks for sharing this piece with us. :cheers

Oh don't worry. The Fett community has its fair share of melodrama as well. :lol

Absolutely! I am leaving the original helmet untouched and even though the Preproduction #2 Boba Fett helmet isn't my favorite helmet, I plan to have the corrected helmet painted like it since all the damage already matches!

Thanks for sharing this piece with us. :cheers

It is my pleasure! I find this stuff absolutely fascinating and I am more than happy to share it when and where I can!

Great read!!!

Congratulations on the find.

Always good to hear when all the hard work and research pays off.

Enjoy,
Chuck...
