My MR STV Assault Phaser

I got mine in yesterday and was pretty nervous about what it would look like, considering seeing some of the early ones people were receiving. So I took my time to make sure I didn't damage any of the packaging, thinking I'd likely have to return it.

Anyway, I took it out and was very impressed. The finish isn't TOO dusty, no bad seam line, electronics are great (very loud and crisp). I don't like the way the P1 just sits in there (I might have to work on that), and I think the ID tag is a bit cheesy, even though I believe it is correct. I prefer the brass etched ones an RPFer did several years back. But all in all I am very happy with it. It is quite a bit larger than my Miarecki one, which is interesting.

Here are some pics:

glad you got a good one. I got one that was REALLY wonky, not to mention there was a (paint?) chip by the opening to insert the P1.

Regarding the P1: I dont know if yours is loose, but before I sent my phaser to MR for an exchange, I could press the P1 down and it would firmly fit into the top part of the clip and it wouldn't move when i opened the top of the phaser.

Hmmm, I'll try to push it down a little harder, I was pretty gentle with it (used to resin pieces)

Yeah once you have it down it's easy, you just drop it in on top of the magazine and push down until you hear the snap. So far it has held up well.

If I eject the magazine with the gun sideways, often times the little guy will pop out like a spent round! LOL

The seam definitely needs sanding & repainting.
Great Replica all around, even with seamline! Very accurate(y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Plan on taking it apart to see if I can replace the rear green LED with a square LED that's the same size as on the prop replica (and was used on the real prop)

It's #70 b/c that's the number on the bottom of the phaser they scanned & measured.

And yes, that P1 clips in place- front first, then back (note the tab at the top of the magazine).

The magazine on the prop was held in place by wrapping "black sticky tape" (not Gaffers tape, but tape that is sticky on both sides and thick) around the middle of the magazine. The ridged area on the magazine, hidden once inserted, was on the prop.

Only thing that is off is the part circled in green: should be twice as thick. That's the only thing that differs from the real prop to this great replica.

These 3 circled parts probably came from a replica gun, as you can see the 2 indented circles (see image below) that are used to push the plastic part from the mould.

Great Replica!!!

Thanks for posting your pics, jhusel. And thanks to mgoob for pointing out some details including giving us the heads-up on the size of the little greeblie.

I have been trying to figure out what the purpose of the white or gray dusting on the finish is about. This has nothing to do with screen used originals as far as I know. Anyone got the scoop on this?

Always love to see your photos, jhusel. MR sales would probably shoot up if they used your pictures. :love Glad to know you got a good one.

mgoob, thank you so much for the detailed and informative analysis. Very enlightening. :thumbsup

Great photos! I love mine too! It has some great functions and to me feels very realistic. I think the "dust coating" was mainly due to the fairly glossy black finish underneath, on it's own, making it look too plastic or toy like. The dust coat gives it kind of a more used and real appearance I think. Again, it's a cool piece. Here's mine....

BTW - When I wrote my question about the finish, I was not being negative and apologize if I came off that way. My question was sincere. I am just curious. Anyway, I should have mine tomorrow. Congrats to those of you who have received yours already. :)

My 1st thought about the dust coating was maybe it was a precaution to keep the plastic bag from sticking to the phaser & damaging paint if it was exposed to a high heat that caused the bag to stick/melt either from outgassing paint solvents from the finish or just the bag melting from heat. Either way mine wasn't too excessive and a quick wipedown with a microfiber cloth I had got 95% of the 'dust' off of it. My dog went nuts over it, kept running around like a little mad man growling & barking in circles every time i pointed it at him and pulled the trigger... so I'll get my entertainment out of this thing for sure :p

Anyone having trouble getting the batteries to connect? They have little stops in the holder for keeping each battery. Trouble is, on the two I've looked at the batteries are held at a point where they can shift a hair's length and disconnect. Some foil in between the batteries would probably be a quick fix, but I wonder what others have done or is they have also seen this problem...
Just tried the foil and it works great!

Okay. I just opened mine. Thumbs up from me. I think it is pretty sweet.

It seems like everything except the receiver, grip, corn cob thing (maybe) and the part of the magazine that slips into the grip is made of metal.

I think the weight is good. I don't think it weighs any less than a resin version. Perhaps a little more. I am curious to know how they compare in weight to one of the STV fiberglass heroes.

The seam line on mine is alright and the dusting looks alright also. By that I mean it doesn't speckled like some pics I have seen. Only the receiver is dusted. The upper cowl and tail seem to have been wiped clean. Unless someone corrects me, I don't think this color scheme is accurate and I will get around to correcting it, but I won't be in any rush. It's a keeper as is.

Now I just have to pick up batteries on the way home...

Fantastic photos!

I received mine this week and I am also extremely happy with it. The finish, operation and heft are all perfectly acceptable.

The only thing I was was different is the firing audio which cannot be interrupted. The sound from one salvo has to completely play out before it will start playing another. If it were interruptable then it would be perfect.

All in all, though, I am relieved and satisfied. Looking forward to the tricorder now.

Just opened mine. (From bluefive.)
The white dust thing is perplexing. Does anyone have any input from MR on what the deal is with it?? Accidental? Deliberate? Adhesive solvent precipitate?

Otherwise, it looks great. After the classic phaser debacle, it seems MR is finally learning.
The finish more or less matches the black opaque used on the heroes, minus the weathering.

To anyone who had complained about the weight of it being too light, I'll just say that it seems almost dead-on to the screen-used. (I've held two.)

Have yet to power it up. Stay tuned.

BTW, geat pix, jh.

Anyone else have loose battery issues?

I mean my battery brand I used were physically too short, so they actually wouldn't make contact with each other, had to put in some foil to make them reach properly and stop the rattling.
