My JoeR ROTJ Trooper helmet Build (PICS)

This is my helmet which is just about ready for painting.

Ignore the bolts, i am painting all the parts separatley so i need to be able to take it apart.

I didn't use the stainless steel ANH/ESB screen for the mics. I found this stuff which has larger squares and i painted it silver. Its all in the details.....

I formed some bubble lenses (I hate making these!)....

More soon,

Keith.

Awesome work Keith, not that I'd expect anything else from you. These helmets are awesome, I want one badly, in fact I need one!!:lol

Looking forward to this very much. The JoeR helmet looks excellent and as always I love your trooper build up threads. Your finishing work is second to none.

This is a really exciting ROTJ helmet trully a great step forward for any completist trooper collector.

I am surprised that the forum hasn't been buzzing after the junkyard thread on these. I am sure it will be once your build up gets going :thumbsup

Cheers Chris

Its buzzing behind the scenes but the exchange rate is kinda the buzz kill right now. The UK price is awesome but the US price is almost double. Im one of the folks that digs the ROTJ helmet look so Im hoping that the economy improves and that these are still available later on :) Looking great, Keith!

How do you form your lenses?

Cheers Chris

Just what I was going to ask.

I have been wanting to attempt making some for a while now. I have an old kit I want to make into a hero ANH bucket and those lenses look great Keith!

Will you be doing your ABS "look" paintjob? Or going for what the found helmets look like? The "biscuit" color?

Cool helmet, I like ROTJ TK's more and more! (I used to hate them)

Just a quick note fellas I have casts from the original lenses that I will be offering very shortly, which will be vac formed like the originals in green acrylic.

Joe

Ps: @ Onigiri tried to pm you but your inbox is full. Drop me a pm.

Thanks!

Chris, its not a Russrep mic. I've had them for years after buying them out of the junkyard. They might be the GINO/CRPROPS version.

I heated the lenses and then pushed them into the eye socket from the inside. Its not easy with the 3mm thick stuff, as the eye socket of the helmet can start to melt! They are just to keep me going until the cast from original ones are ready.

Oldken, it will be an ABS look paint job.
I am using the same shade of white as i painted my old ROTJ helmet in below:

Lovin the work Keith! nice lenses too but I hear Joe will be making it easier for ya very soon! ;)
As for Mic tips... stay tuned.. ;)

That finished "square mouth" ROTJ is amazing! Your buildups are seriously the best Keith! I have never been dissapointed looking at your threads!

WOW! For just heating them and pushing them through those lenses look great!

Acrylic was used (3mm), not welders mask material. :thumbsup
Not an easy job by hand but....

Thanks guys!

Making the lenses really makes your heart rate go up. Its very painful too, as the heat always worked its way through the oven glove and started burning my fingers!

I will post more photos in a few days.

I'm painting this helmet tomorrow. I can't spray paint in the house, so i've had to wait until weekend.

I've fitted bolts to the ears that are just long enough to fit the nut on inside the helmet. The top bolts will be hidden by the chin strap and the bottom ones are hidden by the neck trim.

Here is an ear showing the small bolts that hold them on
