My home-made Staff of Ra HP

I tried my hand at sculpting the Staff of Ra headpiece using Sculpey a couple of months ago... that didn't turn out too good. It was more of an oblong shape than round and when I tried baking it, it kinda puffed up. It was really crappy.

So I re-did the whole thing 4 days ago using epoxy putty which didn't require baking to harden. It still isn't perfect. I made a lot of shortcuts as I wasn't really going for SA-ness. I just wanted a close-enough for my shelf display... and I wanted to see if I could do it. The headpiece I made is too thin, the inscription isn't that sharp in some areas, the bird's neck is too thick... those are just a few of the errors. Oh, don't mind the pink-colored crystal... that's just temporary. Hehehe... This version in my opinion is less crappy than my first attempt.

Anyway, here it is...

Here's a little detail...

Here's a comparison between my first attempt (sculpey) and this one...

Actually, they're both ugly compared to the real prop replicas out there... hehe. But the 2nd attempt is really wayyyy better than my 1st in my opinion.

Watcha guys think?

I'm probably gonna make another one when I get the time but this time I'll take my time and not make it a weekend project.

The detail is very impressive. What a brilliant job. You may think we are being polite, but there is no way I could have done one. Look forward to seeing the 3rd version if you do go ahead with it.
