My Ghostbusters 2010 halloween costume

Okay all. here is my costume for halloween this year. I only had 2 days to build the pack and no money to spend so i had to use what i had laying around the house.

My parents surprised me with a (really crappy) Rubie's Ghostbuster costume - you know, the one with the inflatable pack. a friend of mine had some kneepads laying around and i dug out a toolbelt from the closet

lacking are the fine details, proper handle, grips on the thrower, properly spaced cyclotron, missing ring, crimped tubing, proper filters and hand crank. Also missing the wiring.

replace the N-Fileter and HGA with soda cans. the HGA on the side was the bottom portion of a soda can and spray paint cap. didnt have much in the way of the stems that jutted out of the pack so i replaced those with tubing from random areas. adding in a blinking red LED in the box off to the other end that will sort of emulate the green chaser LED on the original pack.

EDIT: I also forgot to note that i realize i put the filter on the wrong side and im missing the bumper. This thing is made outta cardboard (mostly aside from platic tubing and sodacans) so while im at the bar, it wont bee too big a loss if some one spills a drink on it. it has been coated with clear coat (gloss) so that should not be a problem.

here are pics of the pack before and after paint. pics of the whole costume to come!

Nice pack. I've been thinking about making a cardboard pack myself. Paint really makes all the difference.

ty, tho it seems i did not scale it properly - just straped it on for the first time and it seems a little small...

I HAD a screen accurate pack ... before I was dumped. I need to get more into prop making, or at least as into prop making as I am costuming. *sigh*

sorry to hear about your break up - getting into prop building isn't hard, its probably easier than costuming lol. that is unless your costume IS a prop (i.e. IronMan, Audry II -the giant venus fly trap from Little Shop of Horrors)

As promised, pics of the whole costume are now up. if you take note of the grey-ish splotches on the one tube, i had to use a tarp to paint on and it kind of rolled onto a section of tarp that had been primed and painted but was still somewhat sticky... next pack i do i plan on going the distance but that wont be for a few months easy.

I'm happily aware of the difficulty of Audry II. When I was in Little Shop, I remember the attempt to build it, then we gave up. We rented the thing, but received no instruction as to how the thing was supposed to work.

That was a fun show.

Well, that was off topic, but I guess that's what steered me away from prop making.

well its not really off topic but i hear ya - we also did that play in Jr High and wound up ordering one, and building one out of beach balls and papermache - that one fell apart about half way thru the last act lol.

but yeah - you cant really let one experiance sour you to the joys of prop building. unless your working for a production company you do have alot of time to build.

i also forgot to note that if you can get your hands on some crimped flexible tubing, go for it. paint on plastic tubes will not stick well - my tubes are still kind of wet. also use primer on the cardboard before you paint or the cardboard will soak up the paint and your pack will look like paper

3days later and the tubes are still sticky... when will that paint dry!?!?
