Hi RPF guys and girls, im new to the RPF and have only started modelling again, not done it since i was 12 and im 28 now. Iv collected a couple of Bandai kits and have started a AMT/ERTL/MPC falcon which is the cut-away version.

I planned on making it more detailed and closer to the ESB version, although i might go for the force awakens version yet, i have not decided.

I love all the threads here on the rpf about the MPC kit but havnt seen any updated threads. so thought it may be of interest to show my progress.

Here are some pics of the build so far:

My recent progress.....

WIN_20150921_19_30_37_Pro.jpgWIN_20150921_19_36_43_Pro.jpg
Some more detail work and the new inserts for the engine ports, scratch built by me :)

WIN_20150921_19_32_07_Pro.jpg
Engine Grilles made from 0.5mm styrene rod.

I decided it would be better to go more accurate and rebuild the front mandibles, first by removing the old ones. Im going to reduce the centre section next.

I scratch built some new ones which seemed easier than modifying the originals.

I also started work on the new cockpit tube. made from ABS plumbing pipe for 32mm tube.

Very nice progress! I still have the same kit in my stash. I'm following closely. :)

Thanks dude, always a boost when any praise is given :)

What ideas have you got instore for your falcon?

I forgot to mention that im going off the 5 foot falcon for reference. im not much of a fan of the 32" one.

Looking awesome. Love to see the ole MPC getting an overhaul, lol. Those mandibles look great as does the rear engine deck!!

I'm planning to light it, add some greeblies and correct some issues such as the missing seats. I like the impossible-to-re-create interior and don't wanna skip it, so there will be some creative license involved when I'm tackling my model. :)

Sounds like a cool project. im going to light mine as well. Iv got the pre wired with resistor LEDs from ebay. and iv got all the electronic components for the flasher circuits inc a few 555 timer ICs, breadboard, Diodes and such what. it so much cheaper making them yourself.

Im not going to recreate the inside of the model besides the cockpit. i dont think id remove the panal all that much anyway. Hats off to you for going the mile tho, Iv referenced many a picture of the real 5 footer and also iv been following the studio scale falcon thread where they have been accuratly planning the dimensions of the 5 foot model.

If you havnt already seen the thread,it is here: http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=199048&page=4

Finally some updates :)

I have started to clad the centre sections with plate and greeblies plus some more on the engine deck area, also the tank recess area thingy and the oposite side tube mess.

The landing gear boxes have been modified to be slightly more screen accurate as they were to straight before.

The Model cabinet is starting to fill up with some other projects under my belt :)

Im going to do a load of weathering to all the models at a later date.

Hope you enjoyed the progress and thanks for viewing :)

Lots of thought and very clean build. Really like what you are doing!

Your detailing is excellent

I love seeing what people do with these old models.

In some ways I like seeing an accurized MPC falcon more than a Fine Molds falcon.

I guess it's because the MPC is closer in look to the 5 foot model than the Fine Molds one

Thanks dude, most appreciated.

Its crazy when you look at reference how correct some of the MPC kit is,things that even the fine molds got very wrong.

should be fairly accurate once its done. I love the 5 foot falcon the most.

Also i think the main reason i love working on this kit is the idea that its a 1989 mold design and i was born in 87 so its nearly as old as i am. although this kit was made in 1996 lol.

It seems like not many poeple will have a model that resembles this one, but i guess thats whats great about these modified mpc falcons. no two are the same.
