My first sculpt "THING"

Well I pulled out my first sculpt I ever created and finally got the will power from enough people to finish it. Well here is what I have so far. What do you think? Again this is the first time I have ever sculpted? I know I still have a TON of work and cleanup to do. Any pointers would be great.

Thanks

Looking pretty good.

I would put him a little more angle on the eyebrows though. He looks sort of :( .

Very good start though. Mr. Grimm would be proud.

It looks like you're off to a great start. Your first sculpt ever?. Amazing. What made you think to do the Thing first?

nice. how long did it take??

I started this bust a couple of years ago, and worked about 5 hours maybe on it. My personal life got really busy and it kind of got shoved to the side.

I am thinking of making this a wearable head.....I have always wanted a THING costume. We will see how it comes out.

That is extremely INSANE. I am thinking more of the lines of Foam Latex or silcone. I want to do a couple of Resin busts also.

silacone with a powdercoat of orange, then weathered just a bit.

that would be awesome. i like this look better than the movie version. ;)

This is brilliant.

I especially like the cheekbones and the slight asymmetry in the eyebrows - makes him look so real and believable.

If this is your first sculpt, we'll all be looking forward to the next one.

Cheers, Phil

Thank you for all the nice compliments. I am going to put a few more hours into it this week. I will put up a few progress pictures. I will be coming here for advice on molding it.

Thanks again.

I always loved this character and your sculpt is clearly based upon the classic Kirby/Buscema approach. This is great work so far. Congratulations. I will say though I think, in the side view, that the forehead ridge DOESN'T taper to a point. I believe in the classic Kirby version the forehead ridge just comes to an end.

Keep going.

Alan

This is definately based off the comics, I couldnt stand the MOVIE THING. Updates in a couple of days.

I've seen this THING in person, and it's a work of art. :thumbsup

You'd think Jay has been sculpting for years..

Good job, buddy..

Thanks Lonnie, you are the man one that inspired me to pull it out again.
