My First Sculpt Head First Resin Latex#120 Apocalypse Pred

Just a suggestion in my part, but I would straighten up the upper lip just habit, it makes the pred look kind of like he's puckering haha..

Its been some time since I last posted, great job on your sculpt has come along way from what it once was I see alot of great detail. Its nice to admire good work from another person who is just starting out in head sculpt always brings new Idea's for others to enhance the look of there Yautja heads. Anyways great job man keep up the good work.

Ok-- a few more details and Im calling this one done-- Used the wrong clay so the more I mess with it the more it changes-- Going to start molding it up soon.

That looks total badass clay!! You should be quite proud of your masterpiece. Looking forward to the molding process and first pull.

Cheers

OK-- I am tired of messing with it-- I started the molding today. Because I used a softer clay, I didnt go the plaster route as I didnt want to spend time digging it out of the mold. I am using dragon skin for the  mold, this way I can do either latex or resin copies. I will do a few layers of this and then a hard mother mold.  After that I will cast a resin copy and a latex copy. If the latex look good, then I will be happy-- if not then I will have the resin one to make the changes I want and then mold it up  again. Serves me right for using the wrong clay to begin with!!!!

Well, the shell shock stuff is absolute crap-- I started to take it off and it basically disentegrated into hundreds of pieces. I wont ever use that  again. That coupled with the fact that even though I used release on the shell shock before I added the plasti paste--it still didnt release. I guess Im going back to the plaster mother mold. So this will be delayed for a bit. Live and learn. Glad it was just a trial kit of the shell shock. Im bummed that I wasted the plasti paste as well.

This afternoon will be interesting. I wanted to be able to start casting some pieces today but looks like tha twill be on hold for a bit. Oh well, I have to learn to be a bit more patient, but its not one of my good traits.

OK-- got a mother mold made  for front and back, unmolded it today and it came out surprisingly clean. The clay original is in pretty darned good shape and I can start reworking it for my next Sculpt. I put the Dragon skin mold back in the mother molds and it held shape great. I poured a few layers of 325 into it and let it harden up,  then some 2lb expanding foam. I was so damned anxious to unmold it, but I know better-- so tomorrow will be the outcome. I will then probably pour up a couple of latex ones as is just for the heck of it.

Ill then rework the resin one if need be, and a new mold for that possiblly. Ill paint up the resin one and install dreads and such  for display- This is so much darned fun!!!!
 More pics to come soon.

Sounds good Clay...looking forward to seeing the outcome. It is a lot of fun to do and I look forward to perhaps one day making my own mask. Glad you got the MM sorted out. Keep it up!

Steve

Ok--here is the first resin pull-- I have to say I am quite happy with it.  I have already started doing a latex one to see how it turns out.

well, as things happen, I got too anxious and added  too many layers of latex too quick. When I pulled it out the ends of the crown, the dread sockets and the mandible  sockets didnt cure. So here we go again---LOL

Definitely a "different" looking type of design. Personally, I would have streamlined the dome to make it lay back instead of being so ..."bulbous", but that's just me.

Looks as though you got a good pull out of it though. Congrats.
