My first prop collection (Jurassic Park) - New Addition 03-21-2013

Re: My first prop collection (Jurassic Park)

Way back in the day, Universal Studios Orlando had an Explorer you could get your picture taken with. Set up in a little mini scene at the T-Rex paddock, with the requisite T-Rex breaking out.

Re: My first prop collection (Jurassic Park)

@ Haz, I'll try to take some pictures of the inside soon. It's actually a pretty cool game, with plastic dinosaurs and a few 3D paper buildings. Thanks again!

@Mike, It's still there, sort of. They have the T-Rex with the Mercedes from The Lost World, and the Spino next to the Explorer. The fan boy in me wants to yell out that they have the continuity/canon wrong (which is such a geeky thing, too :rolleyes), but it's still pretty cool. I got to go there last year for Halloween Horror Nights, and hope to go again in 2012.

Re: My first prop collection (Jurassic Park)

New additions to my collection bought from Prop-Builder:

Alan Grant's fossilized Raptor claw

Mosquito in amber:

And the cool thing about the amber piece is that the "rock" is thinner in the back, so you can light it like the mine scene in the beginning of the movie. So I took the replica into my studio, and shot this:

Enjoy!

@ Haz, per your request, here are shots of the interior of the board game.

First, the board itself. I've placed my iPod touch on the left side of the board, so you can get a feel for the scale of it.

I believe the object of this game, much like the plot of the movie, is to make it back to the visitor's center before you get eaten.

You select your character token (here are two of them)
BG_Chars.jpg

You get a card of your character, and then use other cards to move
BG_Cards.jpg

And you have to avoid the T-Rex, Raptors, and Dilos, which move with their own themed D6 (if I remember correctly).

And if you make it to the visitor's center, you win!

I haven't played the game in over a decade, but I believe that's bascially how it goes. Enjoy!

Your collection is awesome. Great job finding all these peices and ever better job on your display!

Re: My first prop collection (Jurassic Park) - New Additions 8-19-2011

Nice claw.

Excellent mosquito!

And that board game looks pretty nice. Looks like they might have used some of the production artwork from the film to flesh it out. Interesting.

@ jsalexson4689 - Thanks! I really like how it's coming together.

@ Mike - Yeah, as I was taking pictures for the thread, I saw the character cards, and I think I may need to scan some of them in in to use for the employee badge template in Paper Props. Particularly if they're mug shots that aren't just screen captures.

Re: My first prop collection (Jurassic Park) - New Additions 8-19-2011

Thank you so much for the pictures of the board game. The board looks really nice and is similar to the map picture you have near the top of your JP display.

As for the mosquito in amber that pictures looks incredible, you must be really pleased with it.

The only other renowned prop you are missing is Nedry's raincoat and I am sure that is fairly easy to make; there might even be one on ebay.

Re: My first prop collection (Jurassic Park) - New Additions 8-19-2011

I still need the raincoat, license plate, and slot machine toy to complete the Nedry collection. There is a raincoat that pops up from time to time on ebay, but the decal on the back is too low, and it's missing snaps on the pockets. If I'm going to put down any decent amount of money on a replica, it needs to be generally screen accurate for me.

LOL I love that I've only been seriously collecting prop replicas for about two months, and I've already gone from "I'll take anything!" to "It's missing a button. Pass!" :)

Re: My first prop collection (Jurassic Park) - New Additions 8-19-2011

Great collection!

I have seen the raincoat on ebay recently and its too bad that the logo is too low on the back.

Re: My first prop collection (Jurassic Park) - New Additions 8-19-2011

Nice JP collection and displayed well! I really like the mosquito in amber...very cool.

Re: My first prop collection (Jurassic Park) - New Additions 8-19-2011

That movie made my childhood. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Re: My first prop collection (Jurassic Park) - New Additions 8-19-2011

So I have a couple new props to add to the collection.

First, the East Dock kit that was offered in the JY by a couple very talented guys.

I still need to put ferns around the base (and get a proper case for Hammond's cane hanging back there...). This is officially the first prop I've put together (asides from some graphics stuff), so even though it has a few imperfections in the assembly, I'm still proud of it. :)

And a wall-bursting velociraptor, that's a simply amazing piece! Thanks again Steven for showing me this!

I also have a Mr. DNA reproduction on acetate that I commissioned a buddy to do for me, but still need to get it properly framed.

Yeah, I'm really happy with it. Definitely one of the highlights of the collection.

You should check out Van Eaton Galleries. I have seen a few actual production used Mr. DNA cels there. In fact I bought a Mr. DNA cel from them for pretty cheap. It's the highlight of my JP collection.

Where did you get that huge T-Rex skeleton model?

Very cool display! Your inspiring to get printing some of the paper stuff! (Also been watching out for a 93 jeep...)
