After a year of machining classes I decided it was time to put those new skills to good use. So, on my own time and using dead parts, i've been making a Luke ROTJ.
Anyway, picture time.

It's only half made, and that half still needs some work, but i couldn't resist showing off what i've got so far.

That's a great start. Is that made out of steel?

I turned a Luke ROTJ in high school machine shop a few years back. Solid steel. The thing weighs a ton. :lol

yep, solid steel, except for the neck just below the emitter. that's a section of aluminum pipe i used to cover exposed threading where i connected the two parts. the difference in material is a lot more visible in person. i meant to take a picture of the separate parts, but i was too excited to see it assembled and tightened it up at the shop. oh well, i'll be putting the rest together the same way, so i'll just sure to snaps shots of the other parts before a assemble them.

thanks Caplan; i found that hat at an antique mall a few weeks ago, along with a gillete safety razor(i'll never buy cartridges heads again).

here's what i've got so far, just set together for the pic, and right off i can see the bottom half is too long.

apart from that it's looking pretty good to my eyes. i'll probably deepen/sharpen the grooves on the grip, too.
