FINALLY!
Sooooo, I finally got my ass into gear and got my batcowl sorted....kinda.....
It's literally sat there unfinished for MONTHS while i worked on other stuff.....but with FCBD looming I realised I had to get it done.
I finished up the sculpt and sealed it with some paint.
Then got the mould made with platinum silicone, and a resin mother mould. I left it to one side to allow it all to cure nicely, and finished up everything else for the HA:uk - sorting out last minute drama etc etc.
It got to Midnight and we said we'd better hurry up and demould this so I could clean it and make a pull to wear.
It was then that realised, something had gone wrong, like REALLY wrong.....it must have been a reaction to the brand of paint that the clay was sealed with.....but the mould was trash!...the inner layer was slimy, and simply no use......
I sat there, jaw open, just thinking...well..that's it, we're done.
My wife Jasmine gave me a stern talking to and said ' I'm sorry I didn't realise I'd married a quitter.....get off your arse and let me help you....we WILL get this done, you promised that Batman would be there for the kids tomorrow.
So we spent a few hours, cleaning off the sculpt - which luckily bar a few small mis-shapen bits was still good, then did a test on a small area with some tin-cure silicone. I used double catalyst and luckily it cured pretty quickly.
So we spent the whole night making a new mould, and finally had a mould we could use at about 5am.
Made the first pull literally minutes before we were due to leave for FCBD....
It's not perfect, I used too much resin tint so the surface was slightly sticky, so jaz was literally polishing it all with boot polish on the way to London in the car. It's a little thin in a few places, so was a bit roomy when worn, but I now have a resin master pulled...I'll tidy that up a little and make another mould......
My wife is amazing....without her I'd have said '**** it', and gone to bed.....but she kept me going....she's awesome.
