My DL-44 Blaster, and new prop weapon addiction

Wanted to post the trigger to my new prop weapon addiction. It started by me making nerf gun props and a Harley Quinn and Tank Girl Costume for Halloween. Then I started making the terrible Rubies DL-44 blasters for friends, and more Nerf guns for the kids and nephews for the Holidays. I even used crap 3 button recordable greeting card sounds and speaker for sound effects in the nerf guns, now that I found sound font boards here I am excited about the possibilities. I am absolutely hooked. During the research for the DL-44 something in me triggered. I am an illustrator by trade, worked for video game companies and at one time European American Armory, so this stuff falls right in my wheelhouse. I have 3 Denix Mausers on the way, I just bought a drill press and work bench, I have a stack of nerf guns, barrels, rails, parts, styrene etc. LOL, I am going to have the ridiculous gun room like in Commando. I am researching the DL-44 variants now, trying to get my hands on some all metal parts, but it looks like I am too late to the game. I know its been posted a million times, anyone can recommend the best all metal Dl44's, or acceptable ones? I'd even be willing to cut my teeth on some decent resin examples if I have to wait. Found some parts on ebay I will probably jump on. After I practice the hero DL44s I will get into some truly custom designs, and make a stormtrooper blaster out of junkyard exhaust.

I say Doopy kit on a resin, and a Toddsa on metal.

(waves hand) After the Doopy kit is completely painted, you will send it to me.

:p

But being serious, that paintjob on that Rubies is ASTOUNDING.

Very good painting. Yes todd's is all metal, dark energy creations makes metal ones, you can find 3D print files online as well.

Great start [emoji106]

You can find everything you need here. All the DL-44's from ANH to TFA. Including Lukes Dagobah Blaster & Han's GK [emoji482]

I was in your shoes about 2 years ago. Got hooked from building these 2 guys.

One is a converted denix with doopy's and the other is a converted Hasbro blaster.

I've built with DEC & Todds as well. Todds is pretty much sold out but uses a much better quality of metal and his parts are built more authentic than DEC. With DEC you will have to get on their wait list (every 3/4 months they do a new run?).

My parts are synthetic but like Todds I've designed them to reflect the actual build process of a DL-44. Dove tail and all. Shapeways prints are top shelf and leave no noticeable print lines. You can also get your parts in less than 2/3 weeks usually. Once painted ur hard pressed to tell the difference. Check out my INSTAGRAM page for references if interested

For most of my builds I upgrade only the FH to be metal but the synthetic FH will work just fine as well. Pictured below is a full synthetic build, FH and all of Han's TFA blaster (built on a Denix).

Thanks for the kind words and advice everyone. Just spent too much on a bunch of Doopy Doo's blasters. Figure I will make some resin ones to practice, then jump to making Denix blasters. I will give my buddies the resin ones as birthday presents. I actually seem to like the ESB blasters more. The scene of luke walking through the halls on cloud city with it caught my eye as a kid. The weirdest thing that bugs me about all of them is the left handed Scope. It a functional Realism thing. When I start making the custom ones, I am swapping the scope side.
