My Death Scout (Death Trooper spin off)

Greetings! I'll use this thread as my official forum introduction! I started getting into the idea of armor builds while in college and decided to take my first steps into the world of "cosplay" by aiming for a spot among the 501st's finest. My first build was a Biker Scout that was completed in 2008 just in time for Halloween.

During the move home from college, my bucket took a nasty drop down a flight of concrete stairs which left it beyond my scope of repair (i.e. I was broke!). So the costume sat and began to collect dust. During the spring of 2010, a friend let me borrow his copy of Joe Schreiber's Death Troopers. I loved the book and the promotional armor made for the release of the book gave me an idea for my own set of slightly dirty and broken white armor. So over the course of the next few months, my ideas took shape and were ready for Halloween 2010. It should be noted that this creation is not canon with the book nor 501st approved, but I do believe the TK version is approved.

The destroyed bucket was the first victim of my zombie savagery. I figured if I could make the helmet look decent, then I could convince myself to wreck my non-broken pieces. And this is the result.

I used a dremel to cut out many different areas of the helmet. A hole was made in the visor, the left cheek area was removed for "feeding", etc.

One of the aspects I knew I needed to address in order to pull this build off was the "zombified" look UNDER the armor. I didn't want someone peeking in through my now extremely well ventilated helmet and see my eyeball! So I found some eyepatches and some liquid latex and made myself some gory prosthesis to cover up my disease-free cheek and eye.

Additionally, on top of needing lots of blood, I added wire mesh behind all exposed holes to give the helmet some additional details. And then more blood was added.

I turned my attention to the chest plate. I figured it would be a good spot for some nice slash marks and what better way to do it than an Ewok attack! I used a hot knife to cut out the scratch marks. The result was better than expected, as the hot knife left really nice jagged edges. Same concept as above was applied (i.e. wire mesh and blood).

I also took a razor to my scout diaper (all hand sewn by me, so I didn't feel bad destroying it!). A gash across the stomach between the pouches with a box cutter did the trick. I filled the gash with hot glue to simulate coagulation (pre-death wound!) and bloodied it up with some light handprint action.

More blood!

I had originally planned on making my own props to carry with me while wearing this armor, one of which was a makeshift teddy-bear/ewok head with a meat-hook and chain through it. It hasn't been done yet, but I'm sure it would be a horrifying sight to see if done correctly.

Thanks for looking!
