Hey everyone.

Posting this here for the first time. Been working on this on and off for a while now but the movie being out soon is pushing me to finish it.

These pics are all of the sculpt. My black paint is coming tomorrow so I used primer to see how it looks with a matt finish. Hopefully molding this weekend.

Hope you like it (cuz I aint changing it now :lol )

Thanks Nate. Initial castings will be standard urethane rubber, followed by cored urethane castings and eventually foam latex.

I'll be posting many photos of the molding process as I go. I'm using the same techniques they used on the movies and have spoken with the mold designer Brian. It will be lots of fun :)

Its chavant LBT clay. The primer was sprayed on to get a better look at the smoothness and to give it a matt finish that will transfer to the silicone mold later. It doesn't really make the clay hard, just puts a layer over it.

Thanks for explaining the process, the cowl looks great.

looks like you might have missed the little shelve thats between the nose and lip

other than that, if you sand the hell out of a resin master you could end up with something looks really really close~

I didnt miss it, I just didnt add it lol I don't like the addition to the cowl so I left it off.

I sprayed it a matt black and believe me, no more sanding needed :)
Pouring the silicone tomorrow and will hopefully have a cast to show by the weekend.

Thanks for the kind words folks. The lines on this weren't easy to capture but I think I have it pretty close based on the photos I had.

Very nice!! Why/how do you cast it in silicone? To keep it nice? Will it be wearable or purely decorative?

However it works out, it looks pretty legit!!

TheOne1111, the mold will be cast in silicone. Cowl castings will be urethane and/or foam latex and fully wearable :)

Update, jacket is made and I was ready to go with silicone pouring but my paint and primer reacted to each other almost ruining the whole sculpt. I'm currently making a waste mold to sand as I've lost the brow detail almost completely.

I may add the the lip above the nose at this point. We'll see. I'll be so happy when this thing is done lol

Absolutely amazing. I've been wanting to sculpt and make a cowl like this one, However I have never made one like that before...The one in my profile pic I made of cardboard and ducttape....lol..but, I think I got it pretty close to accurate I guess. Now, in this process, does the finished product end up shrinking as it cures? Do you have to make it a little larger than it would be when it's finished?

Ah I remember my days of cardboard cowls, nothing wrong with starting there :)

The beauty of urethane rubber is that it doesn't really shrink unlike latex. There is a tiny % of shrinkage I believe but not the 10-30% or so with latex.

I did however sculpt it slightly bigger than needed for when I make foam latex castings as they can shrink as water and ammonia leave the foam. Although slower baking can make this almost disappear.
