I figured, what the heck! I've seen some efficient and modern designs in forming here lately, but old habits die hard. My vac table is as low tech as the law of physics allows, but has a 90% successful pull rate. Who woulda thought?
It used to belong to He Who Must Not Be Named, and was used to form the oldest suits, all of the early TE2s, the bumpy and the smooth caps, even the early experiments in HDPE from about two years ago.
Well enough history. Nowadays I use it to form my Royal Guard armor,
My blaster kits:
and a few Vader products that many of you now own, the mold maker may chime in if he wishes.
It's a table with a hole in it, a grate for distributing air, and a shopvac attached. The heating unit is an old oven I got for free off craigslist, it's a replacement for the LAST free one I got from CL :cool If it got much simpler, there would be a reverse bellows on the underside:lol
I love the simplicity, and frankly it's the simple nature of the machine that keeps me somewhat addicted to the process, rather than learning FG and resin. And the fact that it's insanely cheap!! I won't go into numbers, but I feel the hobby would benefit from many more tables being out there. I personally have formed items for half a dozen locals that made a mold, when the weather is right, it's even fun!
Get one, hobbyists. That is all!
