My Count Dooku bust - NEW PICS 5/27 - POST #28

Re: My Count Dooku bust - need opinions

I think you're off to a very good start. It's already very easy to make out the likeness.

To my eye, an area that could use improvement is the jaw, in particular, it looks like it could be a bit "stronger" in profile... perhaps bringing the mouth and chin forward a bit would give it that strength.

Hope that helps!

Keep up the good work :)

regards,
Tom

Re: My Count Dooku bust - need opinions

I'd also say it looks like a good start, but the jaw seems a bit small and needs to come out slightly... not much... just slightly would be my thoughts.

It's also possible that his lips are just a hair low... maybe someone else can guage that better than I.

Re: My Count Dooku bust - need opinions

I have to agree with what's already been said, plus the nose seems a bit too bulbous. Also, once you get some wrinkles worked in around the eyes, it should start to pop! ;)

Well done so far, keep on it until you're happy with the sculpt! :thumbsup

Agree about the nose looking too bulbous. I think maybe the nook should be just a tad more pronounced.

Re: My Count Dooku bust - need opinions

thanks guys for the feedback - I see what you guys mean. I know his lips need some re-shaping as well. God, you should've seen what it looked like when I started... it was like half Abe Lincoln half ape man. This is the first thing I've sculpted, well, ever - but I dont want to call it "finished" until it's absolutely perfect (which may be a long road from now).

Re: My Count Dooku bust - need opinions

Well dang, if that's your first sculpt then I see a very bright future for you in the world of clay forming... very impressive!

Re: My Count Dooku bust - need opinions

I think the beard needs to be fuller. :thumbsup

Re: My Count Dooku bust - need opinions

His lips look a little saggy, particularly the corners, I mean he shouldn't be smiling but from the movie stills his lips look straight, in the bust his mouth kinda sags just a little

All in all though I think it's looks awesome, especially for your first time!!!

Re: My Count Dooku bust - need opinions

OK - reworked his mouth/chin - nose might need a little tweaking... in the third image I used my very limited photoshop skills to replicate some darker bits and a pupil painted (because the other eye is off balance - it looked weird):

That's looking sweet. Man I wish I could sculpt half as well as you guys !

Great work. You've taken the feedback here and worked it into your sculpt nicely.

Looking good :)

OK GUYS - I think I'm getting close to done on this guy - but I have no idea what I'm gonna do when its finished! I've never done any kind of molding/casting (except on very small parts). I caant decide if I should try it myself and risk ruining the whole thing, or just getting someone with experience to do it for me (if I could even find anyone). What do you guys think?

Re: My Count Dooku bust - need opinions

Well, I think this is as good as he's gonna get... although there have been long periods off "hibernation", I've been working on him the better part of two years. I'm excited to try a new face. Again, this is my first sculpt ever, so please keep that in mind! After a few minor touch ups I noticed in these pics, molding I believe will start tomorrow:

You did a fantastic job! It's a big improvement over where you were on page 1. I'd be proud to display that bust for sure.

Re: My Count Dooku bust - need opinions

thanks - I really never thought it would come this far...
