OK! Well after a lot of hard work, sweat and 4 letter words I've finally finished my fiberglass marine armour. Just snapped a few photos of the finished piece to share with you all. Hope you all like it :) ....

Looks incredible! The camo paint job is EXCELLENT! Did you paint it yourself?

Turned out nice.
How is it to wear?

I have ABS Armor that is pretty light but tends to hurt on the shoulders after a while.
I usually have foam shoulder pads inside my shirt.

Excellent job, man :thumbsup I really like the simulated distressed 'n' worn look on the chest plate... very hard to keep it looking real, and not to get carried away.

I'm no expert on Aliens USCM costumes, but I presume there is a camo or khaki shirt 'n' pants or undersuit which would go under all the hard armour components?
I see that you have completed shin armour/greaves and was wondering do you plan on adding the shirt 'n' pants and displaying the whole shebang on a full mannequin?

Also I seem to recall from the movie that Hudson and Hicks' armour (and probably the others too) had customised their armour with graffiti and scribbled lil' things. Do you plan on doing this, beyond the small C.N.D. symbol you have on the left strap / shell holder belt?

Nice job anyways...really looks the part :) I take it from your spelling of armour that you are from the UK or perhaps Australia / NZ ?

Cheers,
John

Thanks for all the kind words everyone!

It started life as just the fiberglass plates painted silver which I purchased from Ebay for £300 (I'm from the UK). Here's a photo of the early construction...

I had to purchase all the buckles, straps and rivets from ebay too along with an Ab-pad, new plastic helmet (I wasnt too happy with the one it came with), foam padding, neck lining, all the paint and glue etc etc. I think the whole thing cost me just under £600.

I havent worn it for longer than 20 mins at a time but seems pretty comfortable. I think under the arm would rub a bit if worn for hours on end though.

Yes the marines wore custom coloured BDU's under the armour based on the frog n leaf pattern. Im still deciding on how to display it all though. As for the graffitii I wanted my set to be a good example of generic armour and so avoided any personal markings.

Small update...

BDU's arrived, graffiti added, chin strap and real lens installed. Few more bits and bobs to add (lamp, gerber sheath etc) but we're getting there :)
