Re: My Can-I-Really-Do-This? project: an Armageddon Shuttle
LOL. Good ole Lucy.
Thing is though, one could take ALL the time in the world, obsessing over EVERY LITTLE DETAIL and having access to EVERY little resource in the world on the subject, plus an unlimited budget to buy all the aftermarket parts needed for it and STILL never get the thing done.
While your X-71 may not be "perfect," it is STILL done which is more than I can say for my last attempt at that beastie (and more than a few other models that sit half finished in storage). Sometimes one has to just "shut up and build" (I need that saying on a T-shirt).

If you can do it, so many of us can do it as well. And there is nothing wrong with not getting things 100% right if a few percentage points short will do just as well. So many of us as models I think lose sight of that too easily and obsess too much about the small stuff while not seeing the big picture.
Besides, I like these budget projects. For me, my Constellation was the same way. I had the proper kit in storage (which I paid $20 for years ago), I had the internet as my only source of research for the screen captures (and an old videotape of the TOS episode), I had plenty of bits of styrene, some foil and other bits. I sat down and worked on it using stuff I already had in my tool arsenal (with only a bottle or two of paint being purchased just to get the shade I needed) and got it done over a three month period. Best part was I didn't need to invest in any expensive resin or photoetch and still ended up with something pretty dang cool.
I need to do that more often.
