My Boba Fett helmet and jetpack- from cardboard!

Well not entirely- I made the jetpack missile from styrene sheet and of course the helmet visor is tinted plastic. Everything else is cardboard with spackling paste to smooth out seams. I still need to make the jetpack thrusters and add some details as well as some more detail painting on the helmet.

I put up a couple of tutorials here:

Let me know what you guys think.

Wow fantastic job. It never cease to amaze me what can be made from cardboard.

If you had used styrene instead of cardboard for the helmet it would be a lid you can troop in.

Damn.

That looks good. And here I am on my second balsa ABC protype...

What is that spackling paste? It looks like it might be a good filler for soft balsa also.

You Sir, did a HELL of a job. Can't believe it...

Actually it's pretty durable. I was really amazed at how stiff this thing is. I wore it all day on Halloween with no problems whatsoever.

The spackling paste I used is just your regular old lightweight spackling paste sold at Home Depot. It would probably work really well on balsa. The trick is to coat it with Minwax Polycrlic sealer after sanding to seal it for painting.

Thanks for the info... Sadly I don't know what spackling paste is in Dutch. hese things are always hard to translate you know.

Spackling paste is an adhesive plaster used to fill holes and smooth out irregularities in plasterboard wall material. It has a greater bonding property than palster of paris and should have a better finished texture.

Ah. Yes, that's filler for the seems etc?

That's indeed very easy to sand, you can even use your nails...

Thanks.

:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup - GREAT WORK ... That's just sooooooo cool ...

I'm so happy to see that some people still build their own stuff
using cardboard and duct-tape ... I used to do that a lot in the
past and as often as I utterly failed - It always was a lot of fun .

What you made here came out exceptionally well - :thumbsup

I love prop building on the cheap.

That is absolutely fantastic work on the Boba.... :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup
