My Blade Runner Deckard Blaster

I just finished painting my Blade Runner water gun and wanted to post some photos. This is the first thing I've ever painted with any kind of complexity. I've masked a few small items in the past and painted plenty of things with a rattle can but never anything with multi colors or weathering. This is also the first time I've painted with an airbrush. Go easy on me. :D The finish came out a little more rough to the touch that I would have liked and I did the rub n buff before realizing I may not be able to clear over it. I may see what happens on a sample piece.

The gun no longer functions as a water pistol. I wanted to add some gravity to the finished piece and decided to go in through the barrel end to fill the main section. I weighed my personal pistol just for reference and it came in at just over 1000g. I assume a real version of one of these would be heavier than that. I was able to get this up to 750g with sand (photo shows initial filling weight before some packing). I may consider trying another medium to make it a little heavier but as it is, it feels pretty good in the hand.

This is a really really nice job! You should be really proud. I too am just about to use an airbrush for the first time on my 3d printed one. Got a selection of alclads to see which metallic is the one I want. Going for a darker grey up top on mine. Encouraging to see you can get really realistic effect.

Thanks. I tend to set expectations pretty high for myself. Like you I think I would go darker on the barrel section. I had added some darker gray to the Steel color that I used but it still didn't come out as dark as I wanted. I should have taken more time with the masking and razorbladed the edges a bit more but the weathering hid a number of my transgressions. I had intended to clear coat the black but didn't realize that it may dull the rub n buff. I may test out some options on a sample piece yet. All that said, I'm really happy with how it came out. I carry it around the house a fair bit and I asked the wife if I could keep it under my pillow at night.

Hahaha love the last sentence. I ended up ordering about 6 different alclads to test. Settled on either steel or magnesium. Can't decide if I want it shiny (realistic and great looking but a tad unoriginal), or frosted. Can I ask how you got the grips so shiny?? I sandpapered mine up to 3000 grit and still cloudy!! Tried brasso and car microparticle buffer liquid but still cloudy. What am I doing wrong?
