My Avengers Dio

After finishing the new Iron Man kit, I added him--along with my reworked Black Widow--to a shattered street base that I scatch-built. The result is basically an Avengers diorama where Black Widow is diving for cover after something big has just exploded. Iron Man is covering her, his hand replusor ray at the ready.

I think its looking pretty good, the one thing i would add is smaller pieces of rubble (scaled pebble sizes and up) you only have a few large chunks.

Have you thought about breaking off small pieces of an actual concrete breeze-block and crushing them up with a hammer - the texture would be better than the styrofoam you are using now?

That looks swell but shouldn't she be facing the other way?

Thanks. I figured she was running towards something when it exploded, and so she ducked down just as Iron Man showed up.

The styrofoam looks just like painted stytofoam, doesn't it? You're right, this was a bad idea. I've got something that might work better. It's foam used by florists. It has a more concrete look. I'll try that. Watch this space.

I'd give Iron Man a darker wash to bring out the detail and maybe some metallic wear. He looks a little "new" to me.

Looks great though!

Yeah, that would work a treat actually, looking forward to MkII.

I also added a newspaper, the Daily Bugle, to give an idea of what Iron Man and Black Widow were facing.

Oriontide,

really cool diorama. I LOVE the newspaper! If there was one thing I always appreciated about Marvel comics, it was that their heroes actually lived in New York. Not Metropolis (New York). Not Gotham (New York). Not Central City (New York). A very clever detail.

Barry.

Yeah, but that just begs the question "what were all the other marvel hero's up to?!" The city is being destroyed by a bunch of aliens, but spiderman and the others are just like "nah Imma sit this one out..."

The models look good, it looks like they nailed black widows figure, but not sure what's going on with her face.

Barry, thank you! The newspaper was fun to do. I just printed it up off of the computer's photoshop program.

Zombie, I consider this to be just one faction of the overall battle that's taking place. I'd love to do a broader dio, featuring all the Avengers, but that would have to be in a smaller scale than this, which is 1/8th.

0406lance, thanks very much. I actually added more debris in the street during my second pass on this. Somebody on another forum suugested I use chalk to create dust on the street. I'm going to look into getting that.

Perhaps it was like the opposite of a 'Open City'. The world collected and said "if you boys are going to blow each other up, at least confine it to here".

Great diorama though, would echo the other comments that its come out a little bright for my taste, but otherwise great.
