These series I can watch over and over and laugh every time. One thing I noticed though is that only one is American. Am I forgetting some or does this say something about the state of American television?

    Revised List:

    The Young Ones
    Bottom
    Saxondale
    The Mighty Boosh
    Snuff Box
    Sanford & Son
    The IT Crowd
    The Office
    Black Books
    Fawlty Towers
    Trailer Park Boys
    Spaced
    Kids in the Hall
    League of Gentlemen

Mighty Boosh is a good one!

I prefer the U.S. Office but that's because I live in the U.S.

I also love Flight of the Concords.

Bam! Knew I was forgetting something. Love Flight of the Conchords. Although they are from New Zealand. :lol I could maybe watch the first couple of seasons of the American Office, but they really lost it later on, IMHO.

    I Love Lucy

    Gilligan's Island

    Mork and Mindy

    Three's Company

The Flinstones (Do cartoons count? I'm sure someone will say Family Guy and/or The Simpsons... but not me. )

Not too many recent comedies make me laugh.

I'm partial to SCTV and Father Ted. I like other shows but both of those always get me laughing.

I was gonna say excluding children's series and cartoons, but I don't know too many people who grew up in the 60's-70's who didn't like Gilligan's Island.

I'm not sure if I could come up with a definitive list, but I'd like to add a couple that appear to have been overlooked.

M*A*S*H* - when it comes to American television it is a pinnacle that can't be overlooked.

Spaced - I loved this program.

How could I forget Fawlty Towers!? :facepalm Que?

Gino: I'm not counting the series you rich folks pay for. :lol Although the two you did list are hella funny.

I also forgot to add Trailer Park Boys (again, great non-American comedy).

Leave It To Beaver (it is of a time and place and in context, was terrific). Dick Van *. Taxi (the reason I became a TV writer). Mary Tyler Moore (about three seasons in when they figured out how good Ted Baxter was) Bosom Buddies (when it was good it was insanely good). Police Squad. The Simpsons. Modern Family. SNL (for the first five seasons)

Oh I used to love that one! I think the "Chicken Lady" was one of the funniest characters!

I would have mentioned SCTV and (70s) SNL as well, but didn't think "skit" shows were allowed. :confused

(y)thumbsup Beats hell out of Friends, Cheers, Seinfeld, none of which have ever made me smirk, let alone laugh.

    Another US pinnacle: Soap

Agree on UK comedy. Fawlty, Python, Not the Nine O'Clock News, Ripping Yarns (Palin and Jones), The Young Ones, The Comic Strip Presents, Blackadder, Bottom, The Day Today, Vic and Bob, Brass Eye, Alan Partridge, Boosh, League of Gentlemen, Psychoville etc. all of which have me screeching with laughter.

US is funnier in cartoons than live-action - Duckman, Simpsons, King of the Hill etc.

Excellent! Keep them coming. League of Gentlemen and Kids in the Hall are definite adds to my list. I need to revisit All in the Family and M.A.S.H. I just couldn't get into them when I was younger. However, I remember The Jeffersons being very funny.

"Better Off Ted", "The Middleman", and "Special Unit 2".
