Museum Replicas Iron Man 2 Arc Reactor review

That's disapointing. They did so good with the first one that I had high hopes for this version. I have to agree, with the pics and your comments it's a very much pass. :unsure

I can see what you mean about the frosted plastic, even though it isn't too much different than what they show on the website. It is very disappointing to learn that it is not completely made of aluminum like it said it was.

In you last picture where you show the batteries, it does look like there is a place to plug in a charger. They don't say they provide you with a charger or cord, they just say that it comes with an outlet and the section above the middle battery looks like it might an outlet. What do the instructions say?

Without having seen one in person, my guess is that the part near the middle battery is where the screw for the battery cover threads in.

WOW!! What a piece of junk! They were selling these for $175-$200? That's nuts. I could see $35...MAYBE...

I got one of these too, and for only $125, And I still returned it. It had the feel of a cheap nightlight. Thank you for the photos though. I had wanted to take it apart, but did not want to mess it up so I could get my money back.

I wanted to add, that the stand was not too bad. Definately nicer than the reactor.

I had been considering their upcoming briefcase as well as tracking down the first arc reactor (no luck finding a reasonably priced one). But this item turned me off of Museum Replicas. Is the quality of the first reactor better?

I have the first one and it's pretty good. It's got a nice solid metal feel to it. The only part that isn't that great is the black "heatsink" on the back. It's just plastic. But it's in the back and can barely be seen. All in all, it was worth the price in my opinion. And it is BRIGHT. Definitely don't care for the look of this second arc reactor, though. Looks like a huge decline in quality.

I picked one up as well, and I guess I agree with most of the comments here. The face and case of the prop are definitely metal, albeit painted metal, and the stand is also all metal. (The battery cover is plastic.) There is no provision for external power. The light pattern is okay but not bright enough, and not nearly as bright as the previous Mk I. All in all, the whole thing is too simple and not nearly detailed enough for the price. As mentioned, the stand is actually nicer than the prop itself, which is never a good sign!

Here are a bunch of pix, for anyone still reading:

This is disappointing to see and at the same time I'm glad someone took the time to mention how craptastic it is. I like the reactor v1, but wish they could have done better on the stand itself since it couldn't support the weight of the reactor itself and sits on my self waiting to be made anew.

Yeah, I'm with Brad. If I spent more than 25.00 on this I'd be upset. :thumbsdown

I was just about to pull the triger on this one.
I was really lucky to find this topic first.

Thanks guys, you made me save 200 bucks.

Now if someone on these boards would like to provide us with a nice replica of this reactor, I'll be all over it.

Man a week after I got my refund Sideshow decided to change there pics and product info on there site. I wonder if that's my Arc Reactor they photographed?

Hello fellow geeks,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I am sorry that my first post is to complain, but I disagree with the reviews of this replica. I mean the reviews and requests for refunds are completely unwarranted.

I really like the IM2 Arc Reactor and think it is a fine addition to my new, but rapidly growing collection.

The quality of this collectible is outstanding!

The detail really pops when you turn it on. Nice!

Not only is it visually stunning, it's practical too!

Thanks for your time!

Bill
