Muppet builds

Hi ho everyone,

So I'm starting this thread to show off my Muppet replica builds. I'm a novice at this and it's something I've been wanting to do for some time.

I'm an animator and sound designer and fitting time in to do these is limited but I'm going to try my best to constantly update my progress on builds as I go.

My first full build was Kermit, like many people he's the go to Muppet. But before that I attempted my all time favourite Gonzo.. jumping right in without thinking of size and complexity what a fool I was... later after making kermit I realised I created MEGA GONZO, he was too big so it got abandoned (for now)....

So my next Muppet was Kermit. A very kind and generous memeber on here who goes by Ecl. Released information and patterns for Kermit. As he mentioned they where not perfect and would need to be adjusted. So I bought a meter of cheap fleece to practice and alter the pattern.

kermits head is the most complex parts to do get right and I thought I cracked it.

Moving onto Antron fleece changed my mind. The first kermit I built (I've made three to date). Was too big the head even though it used the pattern I practiced with which fitted nicely it was way too big and so I finished him and moved on.

So I tried again and made a smaller head Kermit for my second attempt. But there where so many things wrong with him again. And I was running out of material..

I started watching Adam Kreutinger on YouTube and I learned how to make my own patterns from sculpting in clay.. So I created a new kermit from scratch. The patterns are now as good as I can get.. this is Kermit three but there will be a fourth once Puppet pelts get a stock of 14oz fleece and that will be the final Kermit. Untill then onto others.

I love a challenge and also love Pepe the king prawn he is currently the puppet I'm building. Not knowing how to create the inner mech (his head is controlled via a ball in the palm and wire on the finger for the mouth) I tried looking for alternatives and rembered something from back in my prop building days for leavers. Using umbrella arms they could make a pulley system. So I sculpted a pepe and created the pattern.
I've been working on another yesterday and today to get the pattern just right. Next weekend I will work on the arms, legs and clothing for both.

Fozzie is next

You've hit on two of my favorites already: Gonzo and Fozzie.
I'd love to see you take a swing at Statler & Waldorf.
They may be more of a challenge the same for piggy, From what I've learned these muppets are done with Foam latex, I've worked with moulding and casting so that would be interesting my problem is I live in a flat (apartment) And don't have anywhere to cast large models (which sucks).. but never say never.

Thanks for the kind comments. I finished the first pepe yesterday. And I'm kinda satisfied with him (I will sell him to purchase a sawing machine, as I do it all by hand at the moment) . But today I focused on the new pepe and fozzie.

I readjusted new pepes eyelids so he didnt look like a rabbit caught in headlights. And as for fozzie all I did was treat the fur from soft/luxury to messy and warn in

So I sculpted a rough head shape for Fozzie to make patterns from (which I will scale up). I'm hoping to start this evening having a rest from finishing my new pepe (proberbly a bad idea).

Fozzie may have a couple of attempts. Getting the pattern off the clay didn't turn out right but I'm giving it a go.

So I've pinned most of the features onto fozzie. Just to see how he's looking. I think he's ok, something is off and I'm struggling to work it out Oh well version one is shaping up ok still some playing to make before I make a body

Ive been working on my second pepe. (My first is now selling on ebay). I'm prety much happy with how this has turned out. I'm still not happy about the mech but I've been working on a design that makes it more comfortable to operate. But I don't have a clue where to locate some of the materials yet..
