Mummified Head Gaff (New Pics)

ROUND 1

My favorite time of the year is here! I always peruse through the isles of stores for Halloween junk that would make a nice cheap base for a sideshow gaff.

Here's what I found for $3.50 at a Fred Meyer (Walmart-type store) :

Now it is pretty darn crappy (cheap) looking, but it had nice proportions to it. So I got to work cleaning the flashing on it, and cutting out the area around the teeth. I used the corpsing technique from Stiltbeast Studios Youtube tutorial, the same I used for my small mummified fairies. Here's were I'm at so far:

Hidden pic since it might be kinda offensive to the squeamish (what do you expect from a prop of a Mummified Corpse Head?!,lol)
I still need to layer some color on the skin and dust it and add hair, but it's getting there.

Haha, thanks Bilbo. I'm waiting for the gel stains to dry, after that I should be finished soon. With pics of course!

Re: Mummified Head Gaff (on a budget)

Not as nice of a result as I was hoping for but here was the end result:

I'm in the works of making another head. This one will be upgraded with teeth that I'm making myself, I'll be fabricating eyes to go under the eyelids (because the eyes on the last one looked like rubbish), I'll be going with a more "fresh look" since the dusty look is not my strong point, and I'll be layering some colors under the gelstains. Pics to come!

ROUND 2

I was able to make some teeth for the upper palette today. The eyes are just taped in for the picture. 90% of the eyes will end up being covered with some nasty eyelids, will have some milky bluish pupils I think.

Looking good. I wish i could find skulls like that cheap around here, they're be good for some sculpting bases that you don't have to care about if they get ruined when done.

ROUND 2
"CHINESE WILD MAN"

This was my 2nd attempt. Going for more of a gross, less dried out one. The jaw is wired in and can be removed. I made the upper and lower teeth. I also put a little more into the base and rod (more sturdy) and added a brass plaque. I think I've done all I could using plastic wrap...time to step up to sculpting with clay like the big boys.
