This is that product from Gunze and it comes in a bottle or spray can.

What exactly is this stuff and what does it do for you?

I've never used the stuff, but from what I've read in various model magazines, Mr. Surfacer is a paint-like substance that, when it dries, create a surface with a certain level of grit. For example, Mr. Surfacer 1000 will yield a 1000-grit surface. Modelers use it to achieve various levels of texture over an otherwise smooth surface. Hope that helps you out!

Mr. Surfacer is a primer with a slight grit to it to fill pinhole and other minor surface irregularities. It comes in 500, 1000 and 1200 grit. You can use the bottled stuff to dab on dots of it over slightly larger pinholes and can build it up into them or you can spray it over a surface with lots of tiny pinholes to fill them. I've been using it for quite sometime (about 9-10 years) on resin kits and it does a great job. Plus the grit allows for better paint adhesion. It dries pretty smooth to the touch and works well as just a primer alone. There isn't enough grit to it to really make any surface texture. It comes in white and light grey.
