MR Fett

Check out MR's latest blog on their website, they have new info on the Fett helmet or what may be helmets along with construction materials.

As Brak's Buddy said, the extra "ESB" flare is largely a myth

I also largely agree. I suspect there might have been some tension or lack thereof with a chinstap, as the helmet is fairly thin. This tension or lack could concievably have added half an inch to the width in conjuction with some funky photographic angles making the helmet look very wide. I cant prove this but I do remember sensing that mom helmet looked as though it flexed when held in back...which being relatively thin made sense.

Nevertheless, just like a clonetrooper, as a rule of thumb, when looking down at the helmet the unibrow is shaped like a frown.

When looking up at the helmet, the unibrow is shaped like a smile.

When looking straight at the helmet the unibrow is straight across, virtually flat.....no smile, no frown....cold.... expressionless. "A dyed in the wool killer." :D

But the ESB helmet has a really funky brow as we look at the right side, so to get a straight on unibrow angle, you have to aim the camera looking up at the helmet more than usual....which may account partially for why all those promo shots are shot from an unusually low posture. I have no doubt LFL realized how funky the brow was and figured theyd have to compensate in promo shots....on film Fett moves so you dont really notice it that much.

Just got back from a few days of well, a busy biz.... gotta catch up here....

Getting back to what you stated, I dont' think that MR has commited a crime in casting the PP3 in regard to the flare issue.

In regard to the wavy band  above the eyes, well, it simply isn't on the PP3.  That is really all that can be said.

I think some of this will come down to marketting.  If MR markets their helmet as having come from "THE" ESB HERO HELMET that was seen on screen, I will be disappointed because it simply does not. If they market it as having come from "AN" ESB HERO HELEMT, they are absolutely right.  It does.  If they market it as looking like the ESB helmet seen on screen, well, for the most part it does.

I've never insinuated any "crimes" were being committed by MR, in fact even though my MR Vader must have been 1 of the first returned due to imperfections, still gotta hand it to them for going after the license & trying to bring these types of product to market - brass. My Vader will return rectified, I'm sure. As far as this lid goes, yeah, u can put me down for the Fett as well & any others that may follow (see Very last question / statement of this post).

What I've been confused w/ & still haven't got a clear answer is this - even with all the debate of flare between the diff lids I still find (from what I understand stated here in this thread) that there most likely is a deviation of the screen Hero, albeit probably a very small 1 that has created the flared look or exaggerated our opinions.

So @ the end of the day, I'm still confused as to why MR wouldn't have simply scanned the screen Hero.... Was it convenience? The screen Hero on display somewhere - it was easier to use what was in the archives / closer??

& w/ that stated, I ponder if, well, since this is a LE version could we see an EE or SE that is a real screen Hero scan possibly complete w/ wavy brow & "flare"???

This is big business, could MR be planning on a future release schedule? I mean now that they're doing lids, how many Fett derivatives can there be - 1 ESB screen Hero, ESB PP3, & ROTJ screen hero?

I won't presume to speak for MR, but here is the deal as I know it. MR was given access to the archives to research the Fett helmet. Not realizing that the the real ESB Hero was at the Singapore exhibit, they saw a helmet in the archives they thought was the ESB hero (this is what they get for not asking the people at TDH about it ;)) They took that helmet and scanned it, again, not realizing it was not THE ESB Hero. It was only after they were long gone from the archives that it was pointed out to them that they scanned the wrong helmet (by a TDHer ;)). Something you have to realize is that by and large Lucasfilm, and even MR to a degree, does not look at props the way we do. A Fett helmet is a Fett helmet is a Fett helmet is a Fett helmet. None of this ESB or RotJ or Pre Pro crap. To MR's credit, they did choose and scan the helmet that DID look like the ESB Hero to anyone who is not a rabid Fett Fan.

This situation reminds me a bit of the whole Emporer's cane fiasco. They got and cast a cane fromt he archives but apparently it wasn't THE cane seen on screen. I really don't know a lot about the cane so I won't argue it, but I rememeber the huge flame threads.

I seriously doubt MR would go back and rescan the true ESB Hero because of all the work and effort it would take for what to them, would be very very minute differences.

I think it would be very foolish on their part if they did not release several variants of the helmet. There are so many options to choose from and considering what they have done with the clones, we KNOW they love repaints. I would think at minimum, they would release the ESB and the RotJ. Anything above that would simply be a gift.

Thanks BB, that's the info I was after all along.

So, on an aside, I guess unless one has been able to handle / compare / take meas's of the screen hero ESB, the verdict is still out there re differences however small between the lids......

IMO it's just too bad that us Fett enthusiasts didn't get our ESB "holy grail" so to speak as far as a helmet w/ the purist (in the sense that scanning is the closest to casting) pedigree.

Again, @ the end of the day I can't flame MR or down 'em, hey, simple mistake - & I'm glad they're trying.

I look forward to holding this lid in my hands & displaying it (probably w/ a PP3 recounting as far as pedigree) w/ my SE Fett w/ MSH2 lid.... which reminds me, I've got to get that build-up post going - it's been a year & a half since complete :lol .....

Sadly, yes. If I am not mistaken, all of the helmets are now back in the archive EXCEPT the ESB hero which is still in Singapore. I think the ideal situation would be to take the two heroes, ESB and ROtJ and compare measurements. Until that is done, I think there will always be debate on just how much or how little difference there is between them. In the meantime, I think this offering from MR will be the coolest thing we have seen in a long time. Not perfect, but certainly noteworthy.

A little OT but what was the Jango helmet produced from?

Good question. I would love to know as well. It certainly seems different from the Boba helmets but I wouldn't be suprised to find some sort of lienage there, no matter how messed up and odd.

SORRY< must have missed this....

....Compared against Rogue Studios original casting, some of the most rough areas on the original were smoothed over.

So the plug Lee got what - a few yrs ago(?) - was indeed a master???

-Rod

Not a "master" It is a solid plug pulled from a mold made of the PP2 helmet. A lot of people were thrown by the gold-toned paint on the plug, thinking it was in very rough shape, but it actually is an amazing casting and the ONLY direct casting from a real helmet that we know of. The mystery helmet (sgt fanf, marrow sun) appears to have lienage back to a real helmet but we know changes were made and can't ID the actual helmet it came from. Lee's plug shows the paint marks and even physical damage seen on the PP2. It is breathtaking to see in person. In my opinion, it is the only thing that we currently know of that would blow the MR bucket away. Unfortunately, Lee has no intention of making copies available, and ad much as I would like to, I can't blame him.

BB & TD, I greatly thank u very much for taking the time to reply to the whole matter.

I've been away from the Dent for some time now (closedwheel 172) & must admit the RS thing has been the bomb dropped on my head after all this time.

Lee if ur reading this, I'm truly envious. But more happy in knowing 1) it's owned by 1 who can give it the respect it deserves & 2) it won't be reproduced.

Which brings me full circle to the present day - an RPF member has lit the fire under my rear to get my pics taken & my build-up written (including tips 'n tricks) for my SE FEtt w/ my MSH2.

Soltic, thanks for the compliments and your maturity about this whole thing. I have had mixed reactions towards me since acquiring this and I have had some folks just our right hate me for getting it and some folks think it has shrinkage etc. but I can assure you the shrinkage if any is equviocal to the thickness of a human hair it's inperceptable if there is shrinkage. I wish I could make this available but due to the nature of this hobby too many folks want to profit from it.

Anyway thank you so much and if anyone wants to contact me please send me pm and I'll be happy to answer any questions.

Lee, u replied to me when I started my Fett quest & showed a genuine interest in helping a newbie.... :D

I wish there was only something I could show in appreciation.... Between ur paint list & Steve the Swede's tutorial, couldn't have done it w/out y'all..... :thumbsup

As far as what u've got in ur hands there all I can say is (like fp's MSH3) IMO should not be released / copied & should forever remain that way. Period.

The fact that MR has what IMO apparantly bungled their scan actually makes their lid unique in lineage - & a good story for interested parties.

Yup, I'll take delivery of the MR - man, who's got that Glenagarry Brass Balls thread going??? :lol

So that's where I'm going to end it tonight - Respect.

RS, StS, fp, MR, BB, TD - thanks for being "there" & thanks for supporting this Canuck's dreams & making them some sort of reality.....
